Duties

This position is responsible for the delivery and administration of park operations, as well as the maintenance and development of facilities in Paint Lake and Pisew Falls Provincial Park, and two other small provincial parks located in the Northern Park Region. The responsibilities include management of campground operations, cottaging programs, commercial operations, beaches, trails, wastewater systems, drinking water and solid waste infrastructure. The Parks District Manager also manages buildings, roads, day/group use areas and maintenance facilities. This position is located in the area of Thompson, MB, outside the city, which is about 760 km north of Winnipeg. The incumbent is required to travel frequently to the surrounding parks outside of Thompson that may require overnight stays periodically.

Qualifications
Essential:
  • Degree or Diploma in Municipal Management, Public Service Administration, Business, Project Management, Recreation, Parks, Environmental Sciences/Studies or Resource Management. An equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience may also be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing a substantial park operation or managing a complex multifaceted program.
  • Experience in human resource management including; supervision, providing direction, recruitment and selection, performance management and training and development.
  • Budgetary and financial management experience.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively with staff, other government agencies, non-government agencies and the public.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office or similar applications.
Desired:
  • Experience in project management as it applies to park/municipal infrastructure e.g., building construction, roads, potable water systems, sewage treatment systems and recreational areas.
Conditions of Employment
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Full Stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Must be physically able to perform the duties assigned to the position such as working in adverse weather conditions and in rough terrain.
  • Must be willing and able to travel with occasional overnight accommodations.
