Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. The West Vancouver Parks Department is accepting applications to fill two permanent, full-time Park Attendant positions, responsible for a variety of park maintenance tasks.
The successful candidate may also be assisting with: turfgrass mowing and maintenance, garbage/litter/recycling collection, park construction; graffiti removal, sign and trail maintenance, playground maintenance; snow removal, and other related duties as operationally required. The position is considered manual work, requiring strength, effort and stamina. Candidates must also have a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
The Successful Candidate Will Possess
An aptitude/interest in Park Operations;
General knowledge concerning safe use of landscape maintenance equipment;
Basic knowledge of grass maintenance including mowing, aerating, seeding and sod laying;
Basic knowledge of vegetation maintenance including weeding, planting and pruning;
Basic knowledge of native and invasive plants;
Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of manual outdoor work in all types of weather;
An ability to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with the public and the staff team;
Ability to exercise excellent customer service skills when interacting with park users and the general public;
Knowledge of, and the ability to make decisions in accordance with, departmental policies, practices, rules and regulations related to the work performed;
Experience driving large trucks on streets and within parks and around people;
Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of BC;
Experience operating tractors, ride-on mowers, and chainsaws is considered an asset.
During the assessment process, successful candidates will be asked to submit a Driver’s Abstract from ICBC.
The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable police information check and a copy of their credentials.

Hours Of Work
40 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary, but include weekends)
Starting Rate Of Pay
$30.88 per hour
This position has a pay structure with three steps which increase after a certain number of hours worked.
