Job description

Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. The West Vancouver Parks Department is accepting applications for a temporary full-time Park Attendant, responsible for park maintenance tasks, including turf grass maintenance, horticulture and waste collection.

The successful candidate may also be assisting with: park construction; graffiti removal, sign and trail maintenance, playground maintenance; snow removal, and other related duties as operationally required. The position is considered manual work, requiring strength, effort and stamina. Candidates must also have a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

· An aptitude/interest in Park Operations;

· Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following disciplines: turf grass maintenance, horticulture and/or waste collection;

· Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of manual outdoor work in all types of weather;

· An ability to exercise excellent customer service skills when interacting with park users and the public;

· An ability to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with the public and staff;

· Experience with the safe operation of landscaping power tools (i.e. line trimmer, mower, hedge trimmer);

· Knowledge of, and the ability to make decisions in accordance with, departmental policies, practices, rules and regulations related to the work performed;

· Experience driving large trucks on streets and within parks in and around people; and

· Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of BC.

· Experience operating tractors, ride on mowers and chainsaw considered an asset.

The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable police information check and a copy of their credentials.

Position Status:

Union (WVMEA) – Temporary, Full-time

Hours of Work:

40 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

Starting Rate of Pay:

$30.88 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits

This position has a pay structure with three steps increase after certain hours.
