Job summary

Aecon is seeking a Metal Trades Worker for their Cambridge Fabrication Shop. The role involves spraying, preparing materials, and operating tools while ensuring safety and quality standards. Successful candidates will receive training and become union members, contributing to a variety of industrial projects.

Qualifications

  • Fall Arrest, WHMIS Certification, Overhead Crane Training, Forklift Training are assets.
  • Willingness to learn and receive training.
  • Ability to work extended hours in outdoor conditions.

  • Spray using conventional, airless, and plural equipment.
  • Prepare materials for spray application: mask, sand, clean.
  • Read and understand drawings/dimensions.

Skills

Ability to use stairs and ladders
Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs

Successful applicants must become members of the United Association union local 527 as a Metal Trades Worker.

Key Responsibilities
  • Be able to spray using conventional, airless, and plural equipment.
  • Be able to prepare materials for spray application: mask, sand, clean.
  • Be able to read and understand drawings/dimensions.
  • Follow coating technical data sheet specifications.
  • Use wet film and dry film gauges.
  • Have familiarity with all types of coatings, e.g., zincs, epoxies, polyurethanes.
  • Operate hand and power tools of all types.
  • Handle materials using forklifts, overhead cranes, buggies, and carts.
  • Receive and identify incoming materials.
  • Clean and prepare shop areas.
  • Assist other craft workers.
  • Be willing to learn new skills; Aecon will provide training for this position.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Fall Arrest is an asset.
  • WHMIS Certification is an asset.
  • Overhead Crane Training is an asset.
  • Forklift Training is an asset.
  • Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to use stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to work extended hours when required, occasionally in outdoor weather conditions.
