Job summary

Mondelez International is seeking a Packaging Development Engineer to execute RDQ activities for packaging design and deployment on Innovation, Renovation and Productivity projects. You will collaborate with marketing, manufacturing and suppliers to ensure consumer-friendly packaging solutions.

Responsibilities include planning plant trials, selecting materials, and producing technical reports with clear conclusions. Travel up to 20% may be required; base salary aligns with market in Canada.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level degree in packaging science or engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in packaging development and RDQ activities.
  • Ability to interpret data, write technical reports and recommend improvements.
  • Knowledge of packaging design, specifications, scale-up and HACCP practices.

Working as part of a cross functional team, you deliver the RDQ activities required to complete Packaging Design and Packaging Deployment for Innovation/Growth projects and productivity projects across multiple geographies with an emphasis on delivering the desired consumer experience.

With the support and guidance of a manager, you will organize and execute projects in line with RDQ, marketing and manufacturing requirements, effectively communicating status and risks. You will plan and conduct activities to generate appropriate packaging information, using sampling and supplier management, and pilot plant and factory trials in accordance with good manufacturing practice and HACCP requirements. In this role, you will plan and conduct process development activities (e.g. packaging design and specifications, packaging scale up, commissioning etc.) and help with planning and the effective use of resources, including the use of external agencies. You will also create technical reports, which will require your skills in analysis and interpretation of results that will lead to conclusions and recommendations; create and maintain accurate packaging specifications; and create intellectual property to drive our competitive advantage.

This position reports to the Packaging Research and Development Lead for Canada. You will be part of cross-functional teams delivering Innovation, Renovation, Productivity, Quality and Sustainability efforts.

You will work with product and process development, marketing, quality, procurement, finance, supply chain, suppliers, and others.

What extra ingredients you will bring:

  • Graphics: apply knowledge around the printing process to determine how it affects package performance. Effectively apply to business issues and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Product Packaging interactions: apply knowledge of product, process, and package interactions to make material recommendations and narrow down variables during development process.
  • Ability to work with different levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to effectively communicate to all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to get results through working with a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage complexity.
  • Executional excellence, time management and problem-solving competencies.

Education / Certifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.

Job specific requirements:

  • 2-3 years’ experience in a packaging development role, including co-op and/or internship experience.

Travel requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time for domestic or international vendor/manufacturing visits.
Salary and Benefits:

The expected base salary range for this position is $76,800 to $96,000 CAD depending on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible to participate in a highly competitive bonus program with a target of 8% with the possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results. Mondelez also offers several generous employee benefits (some subsidized or fully paid for by the company), including health insurance, wellness and family support programs, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plans, paid leave programs, education related programs, and enhanced vacation and holiday entitlements.
