Job summary

Trophy Foods Inc. in Mississauga, ON is seeking a Packaging Development Associate to support the development and execution of packaging projects from concept to first production run.

You will collaborate with Product Development, Sales, Production, Quality and other teams to bring new products to market. The role requires a Bachelor's degree or Diploma in packaging science or related field, and experience with retail-ready packaging.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new product commercialization and packaging initiatives.
  • Develop and coordinate packaging samples, trials, and production runs to evaluate performance and feasibility.
  • Identify packaging component requirements and specifications for new opportunities to support product costing.
  • Support commercialization activities including fill testing, artwork review, and packaging documentation.
  • Coordinate packaging artwork development and customer documentation to meet requirements and timelines.
  • Participate in packaging design reviews to ensure quality, regulatory, customer, and production needs are met.
  • Work with Product Development, Maintenance, and Production to identify equipment needs for launches.
  • Verify packaging information during Master Data setup and maintain packaging/spec sheets.
  • Identify packaging/process improvements and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate packaging materials for sustainability and opportunities to reduce waste.

We are looking for a Packaging Development Associate to join our dynamic team at Trophy Foods. This position is for an existing vacancy and offers the opportunity to:

Overview:

The Packaging Development Associate will be responsible for supporting development and execution of packaging projects. This includes creating packaging solutions for successful commercialization of new products that meet customer requirements, quality standards, and performance expectations. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to address all packaging needs from initial concept through to the first production run.

Key responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Development, Sales, Production, Maintenance, Quality, and other stakeholders to support new product commercialization and packaging initiatives.
  • Develop and coordinate packaging samples, trial runs, and production trials to evaluate packaging performance and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Identify and provide packaging component requirements and specifications for new opportunities to support the product costing process.
  • Support commercialization activities, including fill testing, die-line development, artwork review and approval, and packaging documentation.
  • Coordinate packaging artwork development and customer documentation to ensure requirements and project timelines are met.
  • Participate in packaging design reviews and approval processes to ensure packaging meets quality, regulatory, customer, and operational requirements.
  • Work closely with Product Development, Maintenance, and Production teams to identify equipment requirements and ensure packaging is suitable for production launches.
  • Verify packaging-related information during Master Data setup and support the development and maintenance of product and packaging specification sheets.
  • Identify packaging and process improvement opportunities and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, efficiency, and performance.
  • Evaluate packaging materials and processes from a sustainability perspective and recommend opportunities to reduce packaging waste and improve material efficiency.
  • Manage multiple packaging projects and priorities simultaneously, ensuring key milestones, timelines, and deliverables are achieved.
  • Maintain an organized and up-to-date Packaging Library, including packaging samples, specifications, and supporting documentation.
  • Support troubleshooting of packaging-related issues during trials, commercialization, and production as required.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by management.
Experience, Qualifications, and Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree/Diploma in packaging science, engineering, business or related field.
  • Proven experience in retail ready packaging formats and development, preferably in the CPG industry.
  • Self-motivated, and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and perform duties with a sense of urgency.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, food safety, and quality assurance principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management.
  • Proficiency in using standard computer software packages including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
