Job summary

Covenant House Toronto is seeking an Overnight Youth Worker for Thrive Transitional Program (Etobicoke). The role is on site, full-time, permanent, with night shifts from 10:30pm to 8:30am, four nights per week and potential for extra shifts.

You will perform ongoing assessments, provide crisis intervention, advocate for youth, and support case managers while maintaining detailed youth files and plans. A related degree and experience in shelter settings are preferred.

Qualifications

• College or university degree or diploma in child and youth work or equivalent.
• Minimum two years' experience in a shelter or residential setting.
• Knowledge of adolescent developmental theory and issues related to street youth.
• First Aid, CPR and basic computer skills an asset.
• Ability to identify, assess and intervene with youth in crisis as needed.
• Ability to work from a trauma informed lens.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of community resources.

Responsibilities

• Ongoing assessment of youths' needs; individual counseling with youth.
• Crisis intervention in situations of physical confrontation, medical and psychiatric emergencies, and for youth who have recently experienced trauma.
• Acting as an advocate for youth within the agency and with external agencies.
• Maintaining client files, intakes, discharges, case summaries, and all forms pertinent to youths' plans.
• Providing direct support to Case managers.
