Job summary

Covenant House International is seeking three Part-Time Thrive Youth Workers to join the Etobicoke team. This on-site role supports the Thrive Transitional Program and delivers direct youth care during weekend and day shifts.

Ideal candidates hold a college or university credential in child and youth work, with at least two years in shelter or residential settings, trauma-informed practice, and strong communication skills.

Overview

In this position the candidate will be responsible for direct implementation of Covenant House’s philosophy, mission statement and policies as they pertain to residential care. We are currently recruiting for 3Part-Time Thrive Youth Workers. This is a replacement role within the organization.

Shifts are Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Days 8:00am - 4:00pm, and afternoons 3:00pm - 11:00pm, with a rotation of days and afternoons on weekends. Additional support may be available to support program needs.

Responsibilities

• Ongoing assessment of youths' needs; individual counseling with youth.


• Crisis intervention in situations of physical confrontation, medical and psychiatric emergencies, and for youth who have recently experienced trauma.


• Acting as an advocate for youth both within the agency as well with external agencies.


• Maintaining client files, intakes, discharges, case summaries, completion of all necessary forms pertinent to youths' plans.


• Providing direct support to Case managers.

Qualifications

• College or university degree or diploma in child and youth work or equivalent.


• Minimum two years' experience in a shelter or residential setting.


• Knowledge of adolescent developmental theory and specific issues related to street youth.


• First Aid, CPR and basic computer skills an asset.


• Ability to identify, assess and intervene with youth in crisis as individually needed.


• Ability to work from a trauma informed lens.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


• Knowledge of community resources.
