Overview

NorthSask Special Needs (NSN) is looking for a compassionate Outreach and Prevention Worker to join our team in La Ronge, Saskatchewan. This role involves providing crucial support to individuals with intellectual disabilities and co-occurring disorders. The successful candidate will play a vital role in addressing complex, person-centered needs and fostering a positive environment for clients facing mental health and/or addictions challenges.

Responsibilities
  • Provide brief counselling to individuals about mental health and related issues.
  • Create a safe and welcoming environment for client interactions.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to implement and review outreach and prevention policies.
  • Work closely with community agencies for comprehensive client support.
  • Provide community education on mental health.
  • Make referrals for services required by clients.
  • Conduct complete mental health assessments for clients.
  • Consult with La Ronge Mental Health and Addiction Services for clinical support and training.
  • Provide direction to NSN programs, ensuring clients receive necessary support.
  • Support clients at risk of service disruption, receiving in-patient mental health services.
  • Contribute to program committee meetings as outlined in the CLSD Contract.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience.
  • Prior experience in a First Nations health or treatment center is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive and professional relationships with clients, staff and community members.
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Sensitivity and understanding.
  • Knowledge of psychology and addictions.
  • Patience and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
