Job summary

The Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S) Health, Mental Health and Addictions unit seeks a Wellness Navigator to support Métis citizens seeking mental health or substance use services. You will connect citizens to appropriate supports and coordinate access within the provincial health system.

Under the Director, you will build partnerships with providers and organizations, maintain records, and help develop service inventories to reduce barriers and improve care coordination.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Human Services (Public Health, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Mental Health and Addictions) or equivalent
• Experience navigating multi-jurisdictional public systems
• Experience in community or public services
• Ability to communicate in Indigenous languages is an asset
• Case management experience is an asset

Responsibilities

• Provide culturally responsive support to Métis citizens in navigating mental health, addictions, and wellness services, ensuring timely, coordinated, and client-centered access to care
• Facilitate connections to appropriate mental health and wellness programs, services, and resources by assessing individual needs and providing system navigation support
• Collaborate with internal departments, healthcare providers, community organizations, and government partners to reduce barriers and promote continuity of care and service delivery
• Develop, maintain, and regularly update a comprehensive inventory of youth and adult mental health, wellness, addictions, and support services and resources available throughout Saskatchewan
• Safeguard client privacy and maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies, professional standards, and applicable legislation
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with Métis communities, service providers, healthcare professionals, and partner organizations to strengthen service coordination and collaboration
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records, service documentation, resource databases, and activity reports
• Participate in and facilitate meetings, community engagement sessions, presentations, and outreach activities with partners, stakeholders, and Métis communities
• Monitor emerging community needs, service gaps, and trends related to mental health and wellness, providing feedback and recommendations to support continuous improvement
• Contribute to the development and promotion of mental health, wellness, and addictions initiatives that support the health and well-being of Métis citizens

Brief Overview

The Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S) is the government that represents Métis citizens in Saskatchewan. The MN-S Ministry of Health, Mental Health and Addictions is responsible for improving the health and well-being of Métis citizens in Saskatchewan.

Under the direction of the Director of Health, Mental Health and Addictions, the Wellness Navigator will work to support Métis citizens who are seeking mental health or substance use services and supports. This role connects citizens to the most appropriate service providers and coordinates with the provincial health care system to ensure seamless access to care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide culturally responsive support to Métis citizens in navigating mental health, addictions, and wellness services, ensuring timely, coordinated, and client-centered access to care.
• Facilitate connections to appropriate mental health and wellness programs, services, and resources by assessing individual needs and providing system navigation support.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Human Services (Public Health, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Mental Health and Addictions) or equivalent combination of academic, professional and/or lived experience
• Experience in navigating multi-jurisdictional public systems
• Experience in community or public services.
• Ability to communicate in Indigenous languages is considered an asset.
• Case management experience is considered an asset

Knowledge and skills

• Experience working directly with community members requiring mental health support, ideally with First Nations or Métis peoples
• Strong communication skills, including speaking, writing, and active listening skills
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, database software, and electronic communication tools such as Microsoft Outlook
• Strong time-management skills, along with the ability to prioritize daily tasks, organizational skills, and effective decision-making abilities
• Willingness to work within a team environment
• Exceptional written and oral communications skills
• Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills, as well as attention to detail
• Interpersonal skills and an ability to demonstrate de-escalation and conflict resolution in difficult situations

Additional requirements

• Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
• Must complete and provide an acceptable Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector prior to commencing employment
