You will assist with equipment rental operations, supervise the climbing area, teach basic skills, and help with trips and events while maintaining a positive, customer-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be a current or incoming CSS student.
  • Federal work study eligibility is REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate information about Outdoor Pursuit equipment and programs.
  • Assist in opening, closing, and securing the rental office, equipment, and climbing wall.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Assist in office work (filing, faxing, photocopying, etc.) as needed.
  • Answer phones, and assist with questions and concerns about the Outdoor Pursuit program.
  • Understand and adhere to all college and program policies, procedures, regulations, and rules.
  • Complete all daily and weekly tasks/duties.
  • Serve as public relations representative for Outdoor Pursuit by assisting with promotions and marketing.
  • Assist in developing an outdoor resource library (trip ideas, locations, maps, workshop ideas, etc…).
  • Maintain current certifications in first aid, CPR, and AED.

Job Purpose/Description

Outdoor PURSUIT! is a program dedicated to providing high quality outdoor recreation opportunities to the St. Scholastica community and several partner organizations. No prior experience in the activities is required; we offer beginner-friendly training and equipment, as well as some adaptive options to meet the needs of all abilities. It is the responsibility of the Rental/Climbing Wall staff to support the Outdoor Pursuit Rental Program and climbing wall. Rental program responsibilities include renting, organizing, and maintaining outdoor equipment. Climbing wall responsibilities include supervising the entire climbing area, belay training, risk management, basic climbing instruction, and maintaining routes. Other duties include cleaning, teaching outdoor skills, providing equipment and skill demonstrations, and other tasks needed to keep OP operating. Outdoor Pursuit staff also serve as support for trips, workshops, training, and special events. This position requires critical thinking skills, common sense, and the ability to work independently while supporting a cooperative operation.

General Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Work scheduled shift or find a sub to cover your shift and report all changes to OP Coordinator via email

Climbing Wall Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Aid in climbing wall operations and programs
  • Enforce all climbing wall policies and procedures
  • Recognize and remedy all unsafe practices or conditions
  • Respond to emergency situations, perform rescues, and provide first aid when necessary
  • Monitor operation and use of climbing wall facility
  • Provide instruction, training, and safety classes related to climbing skills (belaying, spotting, climbing technique)
  • Administer skill/knowledge tests for climbing wall guests and complete/file appropriate paperwork
  • Ensure climbing wall waivers are completed and filed
  • Create and maintain at least 2 routes per semester
  • Assist with hosting group climbing events
Rental Shop Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Serve as a resource by providing accurate and current information regarding outdoor recreation equipment and programs offered by Outdoor Pursuit
  • Assist in the facilitation of equipment rental program components. Including day to day operation of the rental shop, create an efficient and safe storage system, rent out outdoor equipment, prepare reserved orders, take back returns, and ensuring outstanding customer service
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot use of outdoor gear rental software/system
  • Provide customer support for use of rental and trip reservation systems
  • Process payments and follow additional procedures when required
  • Support adventure trip program through the preparation and maintenance of equipment
  • Assess, clean, maintain, and repair outdoor rental equipment as needed
  • Perform general custodial duties
