Job summary

Lifeskills Connection is seeking an HR Support Specialist to assist the Human Resources Manager with day-to-day HR tasks in Vancouver, Canada. You will help with scheduling, benefits administration and training tracking, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and compliance.

You will participate in recruiting processes, onboarding, and maintain confidential personnel files, while supporting staff engagement initiatives and timely payroll activities.

Job description

Provide support to the Human Resources department by assisting the Human Resources Manager with some aspects of human resources as directed by the manager. Assist in scheduling, benefits administration, and track training.

Hourly Wage: $24.99-$25.00

This position is Service Contract Act (SCA) supplemental-pay-eligible

  • Manage recruiting activities, including job postings, screening, testing, and reference checks
  • Support New Hire Orientation logistics, including scheduling sessions and preparing required paperwork and benefits enrollment materials
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of procedures for new hires, transfers, separations, salary changes and other personnel practices
  • Ensure employees complete required benefits enrollment or waiver forms at hire and during open enrollment, coordinating with the benefits broker as needed
  • Maintain accurate employee records related to benefits elections
  • Assign required training to staff and maintain accurate database of all PRH training completed by all employees
  • Work with the Human Resources Manager to ensure that any training deficiencies are clearly communicated to the appropriate department manager
  • Track completion of required professional development and training for the Center Safety Officer and other staff per PRH training exhibits
  • Assist with the processing of employee payroll through review of timecards to confirm they are completed accurately and approved by both the employee and their supervisor, and entering of employee changes and other maintenance aspects of the payroll system
  • File and keep all personnel records in a confidential manner
  • Assist with the monitoring of all EEO, OFCCP and Corporate Policies and Procedures
  • Coordinate criminal background checks for new hires and volunteers, and schedule required 3-year rechecks in accordance with PRH timelines
  • Track and verify staff licenses, certifications, and other required credentials, maintaining related documentation and renewal timelines
  • Comply with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulation, Job Corps notices and bulletins, LifeSkills Connection’s policies and procedures, and Center policies and procedures
  • Participate in PRH mandated staff training; Failure to participate may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination
  • Support day-to-day employee relations by answering routine staff questions and escalating concerns to the Human Resources Manager as needed
  • Monitor area of responsibility to ensure timely and high-quality services
  • Work toward meeting performance standard goal
  • Follow CDSS plan and Code of Conduct system daily
  • Model, mentor, and monitor appropriate Career Success Standards
  • Help students become more employable through continuous reinforcement
  • Maintain good housekeeping in all areas and comply with safety practices
  • Adhere to required property control policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate and abide by LifeSkills Connection’s core values and operating principles
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Engagement & Culture
  • Assist in administering staff engagement and satisfaction surveys, and compile results for the Human Resources Manager and Center Director
  • Support new-hire onboarding beyond paperwork, including welcome activities and check-ins during the first 90 days of employment
  • Coordinate activities that reinforce Center culture and LifeSkills Connection's core values among staff
  • Serve as a point of contact for staff questions and connect employees with appropriate resources
  • Plan and coordinate employee events such as staff appreciation days, team-building activities, and seasonal celebrations
  • Track staff engagement survey participation and recognition program activity, sharing trends with the Human Resources Manager
  • Coordinate an employee recognition program, including service anniversaries, milestones, and peer-to-peer recognition
  • Support a positive first-year employee experience through periodic check-ins beyond the initial 90 days
  • Gather staff feedback on culture and morale through informal check-ins and suggestion channels, and relay themes to the Human Resources Manager

Qualifications

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency with advanced Microsoft Office applications including Word, Power Point, and Excel

Experience

Two years related experience and/or training

Education

Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred and/or equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid State Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
