Ideal candidates have environmental field experience, a valid Class 5 license, ability to operate boats/ATVs, and willingness for overnight stays and weekend work as required.

Qualifications

  • Class 5 Driver's License required.
  • Clean 3-year driving abstract required.
  • Field experience in environmental or related sectors.
  • Experience with boats and ATVs required.
  • Willing to stay overnight or multiple nights in the field.
  • Must work weekends about 50% of the time.
  • Outdoor work experience considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Support field work on and off the CLAWR.
  • Operate department equipment (boats, ATVs, tractors, trucks).
  • Participate in site visits including HRIA (Archaeology).
  • Conduct fisheries and water quality monitoring, terrestrial biology fieldwork with cameras/acoustic units.
  • Data management using computers/software.
  • Keep shop facility clean and well maintained.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for supporting the Backcountry operations of the department as well as the operations and maintenance of our shop facility. It is primarily a field position which will expose staff to a wide range of environmental work. The position requires long days working outdoors, often in less than ideal conditions. The right candidate is a quick learner with lots of hands‑on experience and a willingness to work as a team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the implementation of field work on and off the CLAWR
  • Operate department equipment including, but not limited to side by sides, skid steer, tractor, trucks, quads, boats, snowmobiles
  • Participate in consultation site visits including HRIA (Archeology) field work
  • Participate in a wide range of field related activities including, but not limited to, fisheries monitoring, water quality monitoring, terrestrial biology fieldwork with Cameras and Acoustic Recording units
  • Participate in data management using computers and software
  • Keep the shop facility clean and well maintained
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Class 5 Drivers License
  • Clean 3-year drivers abstract
  • Demonstrated Field Experience in environmental or other sectors (eg. wildfire, seismic, forestry, landscaping, guiding/ outfitting etc.)
  • Experience with boats and ATV’s is required
  • Willing and able to stay overnight or for multiple nights in the field
  • Must be able to work weekends about 50% of the time
  • Outdoor experience is considered an asset
  • Skills in operating and maintaining equipment required
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate in a team environment
  • Dealing with multiple competing priorities
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
  • Hours of work are typically 9:00-5:00 but longer days are required sometimes.
  • Field work is required. This may require walking long distances, being outside for extended periods, lifting and carrying loads of up to 50 lbs.
  • Overtime may be required
  • Working hours can vary and may require a flexible schedule depending on type of assignment or work plan task.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required to attend meetings, events, and community engagement sessions.
Remuneration:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
