Job summary

Windsor Regional Hospital is seeking an Orthopedic Technologist to work under the supervision of Orthopedic Surgeons within a fast-paced fracture clinic. The role emphasizes safe patient handling, device application and removal, and collaboration with the health care team to ensure high quality care.

The successful candidate will be a graduate of an Orthopedic Technologist Program with CSOT registration and current BCLS. French is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized Orthopedic Technologist Program.
  • Current registration with the CSOT.
  • Current BCLS – required.
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe work environment in line with hospital standards.
  • Work under the direction of Orthopedic Surgeons and collaborate with health care team.
  • Apply, adjust and remove orthopedic devices while minimizing patient discomfort.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Ambulatory Care, the Orthopedic Technologist will work under the direction of the Orthopedic Surgeons, in collaboration with other members of the health care team. The Orthopedic Technologist will carry out duties as assigned within the scope of practice. The Orthopedic Technologist complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of a recognized Orthopedic Technologist Program - required
  • Current registration with the Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists (CSOT) - required
  • Current BCLS – required
  • Knowledge and use of basic computer programs - preferred
  • Flexible, self-directed and able to work safely and effectively with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of orthopedic supplies and equipment for a variety of procedures, the positioning of patients, casts and splinting techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to properly apply, adjust and remove all common orthopedic devices while minimizing discomfort to the patient
  • Ability to interpret simple fractures and dislocations on x-ray
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to a large and diversified workload within a fast-paced fracture clinic environment
  • Demonstrates a commitment to participate in Quality Improvement Initiatives/Programs
  • Demonstrated high standards in oral and written communication skills and ability to work as a member of an integrated healthcare team
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • General good health and a level of functional ability appropriate to the demands of the position
  • French language skills an asset
