The Multicultural Council of Windsor & Essex County is seeking an Orientation Specialist to develop and deliver orientation services for newcomers to Canada in Windsor and Essex County. You will support settlement and integration, connect clients with community resources, and help participants access services.

The role requires collaboration with staff, data entry into OCMS, HARTs, and iCARE, and adherence to IRCC program targets. The position is 40 hours per week with benefits, starting ASAP.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with diverse populations.
  • Experience in IRCC-funded programs is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information, orientation, assessment, and referrals with attention to detail.
  • Deliver orientation sessions one-on-one or in groups.

  • Maintain MCC Calendar and stay current on community services for referrals.

POSITION: Orientation Specialist
REPORTS TO: Orientation and Community Connections Coordinator
HOURS: 40 hours/week
START DATE: As soon as possible
COMPENSATION: $ 31.92/per hour plus a Comprehensive Benefits Plan

POSITION SUMMARY

The Orientation Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and providing orientation services and activities within the Windsor and Essex County area in order to assist newcomers to Canada with their settlement and integration process, facilitating accessing services in the community and addressing general settlement and integration needs as part of the MCC’s LOW Programs for Newcomers to Canada as funded by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Post-secondary diploma and/or degree in a related field of study (e.g. Human Services, Education, Social Work, Communications) or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with diverse populations
  • Experience working within Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) funded programs, particularly Orientation/Settlement, is an asset.
  • Experience with databases such as iCARE, HARTs, and/or OCMS is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in Facebook, Messenger, Live and Groups is an asset.
  • Must possess a valid Level 3 vulnerable sector police clearance, renewed every 3 years.
  • Multilingual is an asset
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
GENERAL
  • Provides information, orientation, assessment, and referral services as required using any funder templates, as required, with strong attention to detail.
  • Provides orientation services on a one-on-one basis or in group settings.
  • Plan, develop, deliver and evaluate orientation sessions taking in account client needs and engaging with other program staff for the planning and delivery of orientation sessions.
  • Meet the targets to be achieved per year as outlined by the IRCC contract.
  • Work the Orientation Walk-In desk to triage clients who have minor settlement needs as required
  • Maintain and input data into the OCMS client database as well as the HARTs and iCARE databases as required and into hardcopy client files if required.
  • Maintain MCC Calendar of activities up to date as per group orientation session activities scheduled.
  • Stay current on all community services, particularly those often used by newcomer clients, to provide information and referrals.
  • Develop and implement orientation and information materials along with assessment and evaluation tools.
  • Facilitate orientation and training sessions and maintain accurate records of activities performed, and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
  • Liaise, develop and maintain rapport with community-based organizations and organizations serving immigrants. Engage guest speakers from the community for the Orientation information sessions as required.
  • Assist clients with day-to-day settlement needs and access to services.
  • Perform reception duties as required such as answering phones, greeting clients, booking Orientation client appointments, and others as required.
  • Ensure all deadlines for OCMS and iCARE database entry are met on a weekly and monthly basis as required.
  • Arrange for language aids/interpreters/volunteers as required.
  • Liaise with the Orientation and Community Connections Coordinator to keep them up to date with all issues and concerns with the program.
  • Participate in regular program, team and organization meetings as required.
  • Attend relevant community meetings as required.
  • Attend professional development opportunities as required.
  • Participate and attend outreaching activities as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
