Job description

The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) is a Crown corporation responsible for overseeing the Canadian federal interests in four international bridge crossings between Canada and the United States. Its mandate is to provide the highest level of stewardship so that the international bridges and associated structures are safe and efficient for users. FBCL owns, manages and operates international bridges and associated structures in Sault Ste. Marie, Point Edward, Lansdowne (Thousand Islands) and Cornwall, Ontario.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Operations, the Operations Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising bridge attendants and maintaining the safety and security of the Blue Water Bridge and plaza, ensuring alignment to work systems, standard operating procedures and policies, and performance target tracking. The incumbent ensures a safe, inclusive culture that embodies the values and ethics of the Corporation with a focus on quality, continuous improvement, employee retention and fiscal responsibility. Responsibilities include:

  • Effective traffic control, safe crossing for travelers, oversized load escort, coordinating lane closures and responding to emergencies such as leaks and vehicle breakdowns;
  • Address a variety of complaints, issues and questions from customers;
  • Work with CBSA to escort commercial Custom and Immigration Refusals;
  • Scheduling, recruiting, training, coaching, mentoring and performance management;
  • Conducting regular security patrols and surveillance of cameras;
  • Resolving issues, recommending measures to improve productivity, quality of service, processes, standards, policies and procedures; and
  • Reporting.

Essential Qualifications

  • Diploma (2 years) from a recognized related post-secondary educational program and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a customer facing and money handling environment
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety and WHMIS requirements, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Traffic Control
  • Leadership, organization, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated team player that coaches, mentors and encourages a high performance team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Solid critical, analytical and solution-driven thinking skills and strong systems thinking ability
  • Possession of a valid G license and a valid passport
  • Shift work required (24/7 operation).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance; and,
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain bilingual English and French (Bilingual - BBC) levels.
