Job summary

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Check all washrooms. Make sure supplies are stocked and ready for the day.
  • Tour Common areas looking to make sure there are no spills.
  • Ensure that all furniture, signage, and garbage containers are in proper locations.
  • Ensure compactor areas are clean and garbage compacter; and
  • Vacuum and Clean Administration office Daily
  • Clean, wash, squeegee, and polish entranceway glass, door frames, thresholds, and windowsills – inside and out (as weather permits) throughout the day
  • Sweep and/or mop entranceway floors as required (indicate wet surfaces with “Caution – Wet Floor” signs until dry and safe from any potential hazard(s).
  • Vacuum and/or wet vac entrance matting as required, dust check the entranceways during the winter a minimum of three times a day between 12pm and 5pm Sunday -Wednesday & Saturday and four times a day between 12pm and 8pm Thursday & Friday and seasonal extended hours.
  • Empty and clean garbage cans as required.
  • Check interior and exterior entranceways, sidewalks, and garbage cans throughout the day
  • Pick up any visible litter in and around entranceways
  • Empty and clean exterior ashtrays on a rotational basis throughout the day.
  • Report any broken doors, glass, or other potential hazards immediately to the operations manager.
  • Respond immediately to any customer or staff concerns regarding supply replacement or cleanliness of the facilities.
  • Check washrooms throughout the day on a regular, rotational basis to ensure they are clean and properly supplied (at minimum every 2 hours in the off season; 1 hour during peak holiday season(s) or special events, or as required).
  • Spot clean as necessary.
  • Disinfect toilet bowls, seats & covers, and urinals.
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles and sanitary disposal containers and insert clean liners as necessary.
  • Clean countertops, backsplash areas, cupboard doors, and all other surfaces.
  • Replenish supplies including soap, paper towels, and tissue paper as necessary; and
  • Report any area(s) that may require attention to the Property Manager.
  • Washroom check sheets to be posted in washroom and filled out daily. This in effect until web system is in use
  • Sweep and mop common area floors as required to maintain a clean appearance and ensure customer safety (be sure to clean behind and around all rides, vending machines and mall furniture).
  • Immediately clean up any standing water or spills in entranceways, service corridors, or any other floor surfaces in the center and indicate wet surfaces with “Caution – Wet Floor” signs until dry and safe from any potential hazard(s).
  • Dust mop and wash service corridor floors using walk behind machines as required (indicate wet surfaces with “Caution – Wet Floor” signs until dry and safe from any potential hazard(s); and
  • Report any broken tiles, torn laminate flooring or any other potential hazard(s) to the Property Manager immediately.
  • Dust and clean with soap and water all benches, seating, planters, tables, and directories, and remove litter as required.
  • Relocate furniture as required by the Property manager
  • Report any damages to mall furniture or other potential hazards to the operations manager noting that any broken furniture must be removed from the common area immediately until it is repaired or replaced.
  • Remove garbage as required throughout the mall and washrooms and sanitize all waste receptacles (inside and out).
  • All walls, demising caps, light switches, doors, and frames, in common areas and service corridors, are to be wiped down daily as required.
  • Clean and polish all fire extinguisher housings, public telephones, emergency exit signs, mall promotion sign stands/boards, fire bells, pull stations, radiant heat grills, covers, and overhead directory signs on a regular basis.
  • Dust and wipe walls, baseboards, trims, and all ledges on a regular rotational basis (bi-monthly).
  • Clean handrails and kick plates as required.
  • Clean and or polish (with appropriate wood cleaner) all wooden trim.
  • Check vacant retail space windows and clean if necessary and wipe clean vacant space security gates; and
  • Report immediately any loose railings or any other potential safety hazards
  • Always keep all storage and equipment rooms in a clean and orderly fashion reporting any potential hazards.
  • Always keep equipment and supplies in an orderly fashion.
  • Maintain and submit inventory lists of all cleaning supplies including paper and cleaning supplies provided by the owner (to the Property Manager monthly).
  • WHMIS sheets - adhered to WHMIS POLICIES
  • All products to be securely stored and accurately always labeled.
  • Compact all garbage and cardboard at compactors throughout the day; and
  • Dispose of pre-sorted waste as per the site’s Recycling and Waste Diversion Program
  • Contact waste haulers when compactor requires pick up and clean/pressure wash compactor area when the unit is removed for dumping.
  • Fill out and maintain Porter Risk Management Log daily.
  • Respond immediately to calls from the Property Manager, Lead Hand, Supervisor or Manager.
  • Remove graffiti immediately in mall interior and exterior areas and report to the Lead Hand, Supervisor or Manager
  • High dust demising columns, vents, and signage accessible with a telescopic duster on a weekly basis.
  • Assist Contractor’s exterior staff with cleaning of sidewalks, ice melt, sand, and debris during winter months.
  • Respond to fire and or sprinkler alarms as per emergency procedures.
  • Always follow all basic safety and security procedures.
  • Assist Owner’s Employees with promotion, display, and/or table set-up when required or if requested to do so; and
  • Complete all applicable incident report forms as required.
  • Ensure all garbage is compacted in the holding areas.
  • Change all interior garbage receptacles.
  • Clean all sleeves in garbage receptacles.
  • Wipe and clean all the walls in the washrooms.
  • Ensure the dryer and vents are free of dust.
  • Make sure the washroom is fully stocked.
  • Ensure the Ceilings are free of any spots.
  • Clean all the Toilet seats from Top to bottom.
Ad Hoc Responsibilities
  • Other reasonable requests.

  • Ability to safely operate housekeeping equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to physically perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular, on-going, consistent basis.
  • Ability to understand and implement all policies and procedures as they relate to the janitorial work to be performed.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Must be able to perform all cleaning tasks.
