Hays are working with a leading general contractor operating across Canada, committed to delivering high-quality commercial construction projects. Their team is dedicated to excellence, innovation, and sustainability in every project they undertake.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Operations Manager to lead their Commercial Construction Division based in Edmonton. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the successful execution of commercial construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. You will act as a key liaison between project teams and various internal stakeholders, facilitating effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of commercial construction projects. Roughly $200+ million per year in projects.
  • Liaise between project teams, clients, and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.
  • Understand various project delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Construction Manager at Risk, Design Build, Integrated Project Delivery, and Public Private Partnership.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to project managers and site supervisors.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the division.
  • Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior management.
  • Business Development: Seek new business opportunities through relationships.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in project management (specifically in the commercial construction sector).
  • 5+ years of experience in supervising, training, and mentoring staff.
  • Technical trade certificate required; Technical Diploma or Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field .
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • PMP or other relevant certifications are an asset.
