Job summary

The County of Hastings is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Caseworker to support individuals in temporary financial need at the Belleville location. You will assess eligibility, coordinate employment supports, and manage Ontario Works caseloads using SAMS.

The role requires a university degree or college diploma in Social Service Work, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently within a team, with standard weekday hours and a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • University Degree (preferred) or College Diploma in Social Service Work with related practical experience.
  • Two years’ work experience in a Social Services Environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Works Act and related acts (ODSP, MFIPPA).
  • Ability to calculate and analyze eligibility for financial and employment assistance.
  • Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Capacity to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective communication and interviewing skills with staff, clients, agencies and public.
  • Knowledge of SAMS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial and subsequent client interviews/assessments to determine ongoing eligibility for employment and financial assistance.
  • Negotiate and provide employment assistance activities and stability supports to reconnect participants to employment.
  • Issue financial and employment assistance in support of Ontario Works through SAMS.
  • Provide a formal notice and review process for participants to address eligibility issues.
  • Make determinations pertaining to the refusal, reduction or cancellation of assistance.
  • Complete data clean-up and follow procedures for file initiatives.
  • Contribute to team activities and committees to meet employment outcomes and customer service goals.
  • Participate in training and staff meetings to maintain knowledge of legislation and community resources.
