Job summary

Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre is seeking a permanent part-time Online Learning Facilitator at Raymore School to support students in a quality online learning environment.

You will be the primary contact for learners, requiring strong communication, organization, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include administrative tasks, monitoring progress, supervising exams, and coordinating with teachers and staff.

Job description

Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre requires a permanent part-time (30 hours bi weekly) Online Learning Facilitator at Raymore School.

Online Learning Facilitators (OLFs) will be responsible for supporting students obtain a quality online educational experience. As an OLF you will work with students in an online learning environment and will, in most cases, be the primary point of contact for our learners.

Focused on delivering a quality online educational experience, this position requires excellent communication, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, considerable experience in relevant technology, understanding of the challenges of online learning, and the ability to work independently with respect to carrying out the duties assigned in a challenging and fast paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Administrative Tasks

• Seeks support when needed (school staff) and advocate for students.
• Follow school-based administrator’s expectations for creating DLCgo accounts/new applications, requesting courses, approving course request, course selections, drops, etc.
• Keep accurate and timely documentation - student records organized/filed (i.e. files for students, timelines, marked assignments/exams, progress reports, communications, etc.).
• May take attendance for each period.
• Work as a collaborative team member that may include Online Teachers, Student Support Teachers, School-Based Administrators, Campus Principals or Support Staff.
• Ensures students have necessary resources (Sask DLC materials, pintables, textbooks, technology, lab supplies, etc.) as per the Resources page in each course; record and return.
• Orientates new students to classroom procedures and expectations, logging in, and how online learning works within their school.
• Supervise and demonstrate knowledge and application of diverse learning supports to meet student academic needs (i.e. clarify directions, read questions/assignments, etc.); direct them to other supports when applicable (Sask DLC teacher, admin, etc.).
• Demonstrate an ability to adapt to the changing needs of students.
• Display a willingness to learn new skills and strategies to effectively support students.
• Coordinate, organize, and proctor exams.

Supporting Pace and Progress

• Update student pace/progress tool (i.e. calendar on whiteboard, Excel document)
• Monitor pace/progress/success (i.e. check Moodle logs, check grades, talk with students, talk with teachers, upcoming due dates, use auto-forwards from Moodle, etc.)

Encouragement

• Encourage students to communicate with their teachers and stay on task
• Display empathy when working with students (checking in, providing support, etc.).
• Celebrate and acknowledge success.
• Participate in parent-student-teacher conferences when requested by the parent or administrator.

Work-Based Placement Supervision

• Collaborate with the PAA Program Coordinator to set up students' work-based placements; travel to placement locations and supervise as required
• Maintain accurate records of student progress at the work-based placement and provide regular reports to the PAA Program Coordinator.

Required Technical/Qualifications

• Work independently in an online delivery model.
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills including an ability to establish rapport with students.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through the successful completion of an Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma in combination with work experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Advanced computer skills and experience using a variety of computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook).
• The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and proficiently complete multiple tasks while dealing with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
• An energetic team player whom tactfully and respectfully supports students and colleagues to promote a positive work environment.

Working Conditions

• Positions are located in various High Schools throughout the province.
• Hours of Work – dependant on location and student enrolment.
• Travel as required.
• As with all positions, the Online Learning Facilitator position demonstrates an attitude of safety by ensuring safety of self and others within the workplace at all times.

What we offer: Salary (Level 4 $24.94/hr. to $27.77/hr.) and benefits for this position will be in accordance with C.U.P.E. 5544 Collective Agreement September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2027
