Job summary

The Vancouver School Board is seeking a Youth & Family Support Worker on-call to provide targeted support across the district's schools, including low incidence, behaviour and alternative programs.

You will implement individualized and group programs under teachers' guidance, assist with IEP goals, maintain records, collaborate with families and community partners, and support students with varying needs during transitions and challenging behaviours.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 plus 2 years of post-secondary education or a diploma in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Immigration/Migration studies, Ethnic/Cultural/Indigenous studies, Human Development and Family Studies, Applied Behaviour Science or Education
  • Minimum of two years’ related work experience with students exhibiting challenging behaviours
  • Strong knowledge and experience in implementing various learning and behavior management strategies
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with individual students and school teams in order to build school capacity
  • Must be willing to obtain CPI training and travel to various schools throughout the district

Responsibilities

  • Implement individual, small group, and class-wide programming under the direction of and liaising with the classroom teacher
  • Support the implementation of student’s IEP goals and assist in documentation of progress
  • Collaborate with classroom teacher to teach and implement self-regulation and social skills programs
  • Support students and collaborate with staff to support transitions to educational placements
  • Collaborate with families, social workers, and district staff, where appropriate
  • Supervise students and manage acting out behaviours as required
  • Prepare instructional aid material and operate materials
  • Maintain and evaluate records/data of observed student behaviour
  • Collaborate on Behaviour Support Plans
