Job summary

Surrey School District seeks an Indigenous Child and Youth Care Worker (On-Call) for the 2026 September school year. You will work with teachers to support Indigenous students' behavioral, emotional and social growth, and collaborate with families and outside professionals to promote classroom success.

Role emphasizes building relationships, planning IEPs, and providing crisis support when needed. Strong understanding of Indigenous culture and community liaison experience are valued.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of behavioral issues commonly encountered by Child/Youth Care Workers.
• Knowledge of strategies to assist Indigenous students in social and emotional growth.
• Knowledge of cognitive-behavioral interventions.
• Ability to teach students to build on strengths and manage emotions.
• Ability to collaborate with families and Indigenous communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide enhanced services to support individual students' classroom participation.
• Help prepare students for partial or full reintegration into class with one-to-one monitoring as needed.
• Collaborate with staff on behavior management techniques and review effectiveness with teachers.
• Support social, emotional, and behavioral growth of Indigenous children and youth.
• Assist in developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and participate in School Based Team meetings.
• Encourage parental involvement in school plans and student progress.
