Job summary

Cenovus is seeking an Oil Sands Crown Royalty Analyst to support key royalty obligations across regulatory, finance and operations. You will prepare filings for Alberta Energy, perform accruals and variance analyses, and translate complex data into actionable insights for senior leadership.

The role emphasizes regulatory compliance, cross‑functional collaboration, and building expertise in Alberta oil sands royalty frameworks. Strong analytical skills and SAP proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• Legally authorized to work in Canada.
• Minimum 5 years of oil and gas accounting experience.
• Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting or Finance) or equivalent; CPA designation is an asset.
• Strong Microsoft Office and SAP skills.
• Demonstrated analytical mindset and problem-solving abilities.
• Comfortable presenting complex information to senior leaders and stakeholders.
• Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams and influencing outcomes.
• Understanding of Oil Sands Royalty regulations and SAGD operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and submit regulatory filings and reports to the Alberta Department of Energy (monthly GFE, annual EOPS, CARE reporting and other submissions).
• Execute monthly royalty accruals and quarterly variance analysis with insights for stakeholders.
• Analyze financial, operational, and regulatory information to assess royalty impacts and support decision-making.
• Coordinate and submit Oil Sands Royalty project applications to the Alberta Department of Energy.
• Assist Audit Coordinator in responding to audit requests and royalty inquiries.
• Collaborate with Capital and Operating Accounting to ensure accurate royalty payables and expenses.
• Research royalty legislation and regulatory updates to translate requirements into actionable insights.
• Build relationships with Operations, Finance, Treasury, Regulatory and external industry groups.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, reporting, and data analysis.
