Job summary

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education is seeking a Manager of Occupational Health and Safety to lead the OHS program across departments and support safe and healthy worksites.

The successful candidate will identify hazards, assess risks, and implement controls, while coaching principals and supervisors on the OHS Act, regulations, and HRCE policies, including incident reporting and committee work.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in a large unionized environment.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook and database systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the OHS program across HRCE and departments.
• Identify hazards and assess risks to implement controls and safe work practices.
• Coach principals and supervisors on the OHS Act, regulations, and HRCE policies.
• Address indoor air quality concerns, incident reporting, Joint OHS Committees, and right to refuse unsafe work.
• Collaborate with HR to support safe and healthy worksites and staff wellbeing.
