Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Bedford, Nova Scotia is opening DePaul Hall Enhanced Care and seeking a full-time Occupational/Physical Therapy Assistant to join the team. You will prepare and administer physical therapy for residents, collaborate with OT/PT and the Wellness Team, and help develop individualized care plans in a long-term care setting.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Physiotherapy from an approved college or a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and administer individual and group physical therapy.
  • Administer therapeutic interventions as developed by PT/OT, including ROM and stretching.
  • Collaborate with residents, families, OT, PT and the Wellness Team to develop an Individualized Service Plan.
  • Prepare and administer treatments using standard methods per PT/OT directions.
  • Document according to policy, including care records and progress notes.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and assist with audits and inspections.
  • Assist residents with ambulation under the direction of the Physiotherapist.
  • Ensure safety and report conditions affecting treatment.

About The Opportunity
  • Prepare and administer individual and group physical therapy
  • Administers and assists residents with therapeutic intervention programs as developed by the PT and OT, such as range of motion, progressive resistive and stretching, ADLs
  • Collaborates with the resident, their family, Occupational Therapist (OT), Physiotherapist (PT), and the other members of the interdisciplinary team in the development of an Individualized Service Plan.
  • Prepares and administers treatments using standard therapeutic methods and techniques assigned by the PT and OT.
  • Administers and assists residents with therapeutic intervention programs
  • Communicates appropriately and effectively, through verbal, nonverbal, written and electronic means, with the residents, Substitute Decision Makers, OT, PT, other members of the Wellness Team and interdisciplinary team.
  • Cleans and sterilizes area and equipment as required; monitors and maintains general housekeeping of the department.
  • Maintains equipment inventory and assists with department audits and inspections.
  • Assists residents in ambulation, with or without an ambulatory aid, under the direction of the Physiotherapist
  • Documents according to policy and procedures such as Daily Resident Care Record, resident progress notes, incident reporting, PPCA and Critical Incidents
  • Observes and monitors residents’ response during treatment and responds accordingly to ensure safety; note conditions and progress for reporting to PT/OT
  • Maintains equipment inventory and assists with department audits, cleaning and inspections
  • Additional duties as assigned
About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • A post-secondary education in Physiotherapy from an approved college or you have a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology
  • U-First training and/or a Dementia Care Course would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience working in a long-term care environment would also be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of basic resident care practices and principles
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
