Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Bedford, Nova Scotia is seeking a full-time Occupational Therapist for the Allied Health Services team at DePaul Hall Enhanced Care. You will evaluate residents, develop individualized plans, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to promote independence in daily activities.

The role includes ongoing professional development, provincial licensing, and travel within the region as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Occupational Therapy with current provincial registration.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is required.
  • 1+ year of clinical OT experience or as a graduate therapist.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of OT principles, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and adaptive equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and interpret occupational therapy tests and assessments.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans with interdisciplinary input.
  • Monitor progress and adjust treatment plans with nursing and physicians.
  • Prepare reports and maintain treatment records.
  • Provide staff training on ergonomics, seating and equipment use.
  • Coordinate equipment management and vendor services as needed.
  • Contribute to ongoing professional development and education.
  • Support residents and families in OT-related goals.

In anticipation of opening in October 2026, we are searching for a full-time Occupational Therapist to join our Allied Health Services team at new DePaul Hall Enhanced Care based in Bedford, Nova Scotia.

About The Opportunity
  • Administers and interprets standardized and non-standardized tests and evaluations to assess resident with occupational therapy related concerns such as level of independence in activities of daily living, seating and mobility, swallowing and meal texture, pressure reduction and skin integrity, splinting
  • Develops individualized treatment plans based on clinical records, observation, and referral; confers with interdisciplinary staff regarding an overall treatment plan for residents
  • Evaluates the progress of residents in relation to occupational therapy treatment provided through use of tests and observation; confers with nursing staff and physicians regarding effectiveness of treatment
  • Prepares progress reports, funding requests, and statistical reports relating to occupational therapy treatment program and resident needs and maintains treatment records as required
  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team; gives evaluation and progress reports on residents. Designs and produces adaptive equipment, utensils, splints or other orthotic devices as needed by residents; instructs residents and staff in the use of the equipment
  • Coordinates management of facility equipment; contacts suppliers for service and maintenance of wheelchairs, geri chairs and power wheelchairs
  • Provides staff training on ergonomics, seating assessment, skin integrity, equipment and other related topics as required
  • Additional duties as assigned/required
About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • A Bachelors or Master of Science in Occupational Therapy, current registration with the provincial Association of Occupational Therapists
  • Proof of valid CPR/First Aid Certification is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • At least 1-year clinical experience as an occupational therapy student or graduate therapist
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of occupational therapy, anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology as related to the practice of occupational therapy, the use of adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, positioning chairs, utensils and splints and knowledge of the potential hazards associated with equipment, tools, and materials used in occupational therapy
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a?clear Criminal Record Check, and?where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
  • Previous experience working in a Long-term Care, or health care environment an asset.
  • Willingness to travel within the region; travel costs compensated per kilometer
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services, and care
