Job summary

Timmins and District Hospital is seeking an experienced Occupational Health Nurse to join the OH&S team on-site. You will deliver nursing care, immunizations, health counselling, and injury/illness assessments to workers, while supporting return-to-work and disability case management.

Responsibilities include pre-employment health assessments, TB testing, and administering respiratory protection program tasks, with collaboration across departments.

Qualifications

  • Current registration, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • COHN certification preferred or demonstrate effort toward certification.
  • BCLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides primary care and assessments for occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Implements care plans with follow-up nursing care and referrals.
  • Assists in disability claims management and return-to-work processes.
  • Conducts pre-employment health assessments and vital sign monitoring.
  • Maintains accurate nursing records and assists in health policy development.

Job description

Reporting directly to the VPPeople/Director of Operations, and working under direction from theOccupational Health Coordinator and consulting Occupational Health Physician,you will be a member of the Occupational Health and Safety Team. You will applynursing practices to contribute to the health of workers in all occupationsthrough health promotion, health protection, and treatment of injury/illnessesand management of disability.

PositionResponsibilities:
  • Provideson-site employee health nursing care, immunizations, health counselling, andinfectious disease outbreak management.
  • Providesprimary care and assessments for occupational and non-occupational injuries andillnesses.
  • Implementscare plans with follow-up nursing care and referrals, including follow-up andmanagement of workers with suspected Latent TB Infection.
  • Assistsin case management of short term disability (STD), long term disability (LTD),and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims.
  • Assistsin early and safe return to work.
  • Conductspre-employment health assessments including TB testing, visual acuity testing,and vital sign monitoring.
  • Interpretsand promotes compliance with government legislation.
  • Administersmask fit testing to support the TADH Respiratory Protection program, incollaboration with the Health and Safety Coordinator.
  • Participatesin occupational health and safety maintenance, and collaborates with variouscommunity partners.
  • Mayrepresent Occupational Health on various committees (not exclusive to JHSC,IPAC, Social/Wellness, Ergonomics, etc.).
  • Maintainaccurate record keeping systems for all nursing care administered.
  • Assistsin the development and maintenance of occupational health and safety policiesand programs.
  • Providesassistance to hospital ergonomics program.
  • Promotionand facilitation of health promotion and wellness programs.
  • Otherresponsibilities, as assigned.
Position Requirements:
  • The idealcandidate will be an energetic, organized, highly flexible team player who canperform with minimal supervision, has excellent verbal and writtencommunication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated professionalism indealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Qualificationsinclude:
  • Currentregistration, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Certificationas an Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) with a recognized association ispreferred requirement or demonstrated effort working towards certification.
  • CurrentBasic Cardiac Life Support certification (BCLS).
  • DemonstratedOccupational Health Nursing knowledge and understanding of the principles ofOccupational Health Nursing through the completion of occupational healthnursing education or working towards.
  • Experiencewith disability claims management, application of successful rehab principles,and management of transitional work programs preferred.
  • 2to 5 years of occupational health experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeof Occupational Health principles and applicable legislation (OHSA,WSIB, HumanRights).
  • Excellentcomputer skills including the full Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience/awarenessof Parklane Software is an asset.
  • Demonstratedcommitment to the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Experiencein a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Bilingualism(English/French) is an asset.
  • Must have had at leastone doses of the COVID vaccine.
