Job summary

Timmins and District Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse Therapist (OPMH) to provide quality psychiatric nursing in an outpatient setting. The role supports intake, triage, and collaborative care within the multidisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate holds a nursing degree with Ontario certification, has a minimum of three years in mental health nursing, and demonstrates strong communication and trauma-informed care skills. Training in DBT is an asset and bilingualism is a plus.

Qualifications

• Must possess a diploma or BScN and current Certificate of Competence issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
• Must be able to perform independently and meet ongoing organizational competencies.
• Minimum of 3 years of current mental health nursing experience with knowledge of major psychiatric diagnoses and pharmacology.
• Training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and knowledge of psychotherapy settings.
• Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and related forms; ability to complete mental health intakes.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, effective and therapeutic psychiatric nursing services.
• Perform intake assessments and triage for outpatient referrals.
• Provide individual and group therapy using trauma-informed care principles.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to coordinate intake, care, and referrals.
• Respond to safety risks and emergencies and participate in code responses.

PositionSummary:

To provide quality psychiatric nursingservices, in an outpatient setting, to patients experiencing issues with mentalhealth, within the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses ofOntario and the policies and procedures of the Timmins and District Hospital.

Position Requirements:

• Must possess a diploma or BScN andcurrent Certificate of Competence issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
• Must have the ability to performindependently, as per the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, andthe learning ability to achieve and maintain ongoing organizationalcompetencies.
• Must maintain privacy andconfidentiality as per hospital policy.
• Minimum of 3 years of currentmental health nursing experience with knowledge of major psychiatric diagnoses,the pharmacology associated with the treatment of these illnesses, and trainingand applied knowledge in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
• Training and applied knowledge inDialectical Behavior Therapy would be considered an asset.
• Must have the knowledge, skills,and clinical judgment required to support and complete incoming comprehensivemental health intakes for Outpatient Psychotherapy and Psychiatry services,including assessment of presenting concerns, mental health history, risk andsafety, psychosocial needs, functional status, and identification ofappropriate service needs and referral pathways.
• Must demonstrate the ability tocollaborate with the outpatient and inpatient multidisciplinary team to supportintake, triage, care coordination, and appropriate referral or disposition ofindividuals accessing Outpatient Mental Health services.
• Must possess a working knowledge ofthe Mental Health Act and relevant legal forms.
• Current certification in BCLS,Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB), and CPI.
• Must possess a working knowledge ofavailable hospital and community mental health and addiction resources andreferral pathways.
• Must possess an employment historywhich demonstrates regular attendance at work.
• Must possess excellent verbal andwritten communication skills and have the ability to establish effective andcollaborative relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team,patients, families, and community partners.
• Experience with data entry, Windowsprograms, and Meditech.
• Bilingualism (French and English)would be considered an asset.
• Starting salary of $41.15/hour;$80,242.50/year (As per Step 1 of the ONA collective agreement.) ranges to58.98/hour; $115,011.00/year (As per Step 8 of the ONA collective agreement.)
• Option to enroll in Healthcare of Ontario PensionPlan.

PositionResponsibilities:

• Provide safe, effective and therapeuticpsychiatric nursing services to patients experiencing persistent and/or seriousmental illness.
• Perform intake assessments for patientsreferred for services and triage priority, with input from the team
• Provide individual therapy and groupintervention and manage group dynamics.
• Provide skilled mental health nursing byestablishing and maintaining a caring, therapeutic relationship using arecovery-oriented approach with consideration and incorporation of elements oftrauma-informed care, as indicated.
• Must be able to collaborate with the healthcare team to provide goal directed interventions and to reach identified clientoutcomes.
• Must be able to conduct psychosocial and mentalstatus assessments with special attention to suicidal/homicidal risks.
• Must be culturally mindful and aware of socialdeterminants of health.
• Must maintain collaborative relationships withcommunity partners.
• Must be comfortable responding to safety risksimpacting clients and health care team members, challenge questionable actions,and intervene appropriately in situations of risk.
• Provide onsite assessment and intervention ofpsychiatric emergencies.
• Must have the physical strength and agility torespond to Code White situations
