Job summary

TADH is seeking an Occupational Health Nurse to join the Occupational Health team in Timmins, Ontario. The role reports to the VP People/Director of Operations and supports health promotion, protection, and treatment of injury/illness.

The position involves on-site care (22.5 hrs/week), pre-employment assessments, outbreak management, and collaboration with the Occupational Health Coordinator and physician. RN in Ontario required; COHN preferred; BCLS and OH knowledge expected.

Qualifications

• Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• COHN certification preferred or demonstrated progress toward certification.
• BCLS certification is required.
• Experience in occupational health nursing practice or education is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site health nursing care, immunizations, health counselling, and infectious disease outbreak management.
• Deliver primary care and assessments for occupational injuries and illnesses.
• Develop and follow care plans with follow-up and referrals.
• Support disability claims management and return-to-work programs.
• Assist in pre-employment health assessments and TB testing.
• Ensure compliance with OHSA, WSIB, and related legislation.
• Administer mask fit testing for respiratory protection program.
• Record keeping for all nursing care administered.
• Contribute to health promotion and wellness initiatives.

Job description

Reporting directly to the VP People/Director of Operations, and working under direction from the Occupational Health Coordinator and consulting Occupational Health Physician, you will be a member of the Occupational Health and Safety Team. You will apply nursing practices to contribute to the health of workers in all occupations through health promotion, health protection, and treatment of injury/illnesses and management of disability.

Position Responsibilities

• Provides on-site employee health nursing care, immunizations, health counselling, and infectious disease outbreak management.
• Provides primary care and assessments for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
• Implements care plans with follow-up nursing care and referrals, including follow-up and management of workers with suspected Latent TB Infection.
• Assists in case management of short term disability (STD), long term disability (LTD), and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims.
• Assists in early and safe return to work.
• Conducts pre-employment health assessments including TB testing, visual acuity testing, and vital sign monitoring.
• Interprets and promotes compliance with government legislation.
• Administers mask fit testing to support the TADH Respiratory Protection program, in collaboration with the Health and Safety Coordinator.
• Participates in occupational health and safety maintenance, and collaborates with various community partners.
• May represent Occupational Health on various committees (not exclusive to JHSC, IPAC, Social/Wellness, Ergonomics, etc.).
• Maintain accurate record keeping systems for all nursing care administered.
• Assists in the development and maintenance of occupational health and safety policies and programs.
• Provides assistance to hospital ergonomics program.
• Promotion and facilitation of health promotion and wellness programs.
• Other responsibilities, as assigned.

Position Requirements

The ideal candidate will be an energetic, organized, highly flexible team player who can perform with minimal supervision, has excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.

Qualifications include:

• Current registration, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Certification as an Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) with a recognized association is preferred requirement or demonstrated effort working towards certification.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (BCLS).
• Demonstrated Occupational Health Nursing knowledge and understanding of the principles of Occupational Health Nursing through the completion of occupational health nursing education or working towards.
• Experience with disability claims management, application of successful rehab principles, and management of transitional work programs preferred.
• 2 to 5 years of occupational health experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health principles and applicable legislation (OHSA,WSIB, Human Rights).
• Excellent computer skills including the full Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience/awareness of Parklane Software is an asset.
• Demonstrated commitment to the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors.
• Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
• Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
• Must have had at least one doses of the COVID vaccine.
