Job summary

Good Shepherd Centres in Hamilton is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to provide primary health care across two high school wellness clinics, with flexibility to coordinate care between sites.

You will perform health assessments, diagnose and treat illnesses, order tests, prescribe medications and deliver health education, while collaborating with students, families, school staff, physicians and community partners to support health and well-being.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing and CNO Extended Class registration in good standing.
• Minimum two years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner/RN (EC).
• Current CPR/First Aid certification.

This is a temporary full-time, in-person position. The successful candidate will provide services across two high school clinic sites, with flexibility required to coordinate service delivery between locations.

Rate of Pay:

$59.07/hour - $71.16/hour (Starting salary will be determined by factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions)

This opportunity is with Good Shepherd –Early Intervention Program (School-Based Health Wellness Centres).

How You Will Make an Impact

Accountable to the Director, Barrett Centre for Crisis Support, the Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health care services to individuals through two high school-based health and wellness clinic sites.

Working within the full scope of Nurse Practitioner practice, the successful candidate will provide comprehensive and focused health assessments, diagnose and treat illness and injury, order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescribe and administer medications and treatments, and provide health education, counselling and wellness support.

The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with students, families, school administrators and staff, Good Shepherd teams, physicians, specialists, hospitals and community service providers to support the health and well-being of individuals. The role will also assist with connecting clients to primary care, mental health and psychiatry services and other appropriate community resources.

The successful candidate will use a holistic, client-centered and harm reduction approach, with consideration for the psychological, social, cultural and environmental factors affecting each individual. They will demonstrate culturally competent, respectful and compassionate care and contribute to an integrated anti-racism/anti-oppression framework.

The Nurse Practitioner will also maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, collect service utilization information, identify health needs and service trends, and provide consultation and support to school staff.

The successful candidate will be responsible for participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs and working in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing and registration in the Extended Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing
• Minimum two years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner/RN (EC), preferably in a community setting
• Current CPR/First Aid certification
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic and treatment skills
• Experience providing primary health care and working collaboratively with physicians, specialists and community service providers
• Experience working with culturally diverse populations, including individuals newly arrived in Canada
• Commitment to harm reduction, health promotion and client-centered care
• Demonstrated commitment to anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with creativity, flexibility and adaptability
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office

• WHMIS training
• Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and responsibilities under applicable legislation
