Job summary

The Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton seeks a Nurse Practitioner to join its Cardiac Sciences team. This NP role spans acute and ambulatory care, supporting inpatient care in the Cardiac ICU and outpatient management in the Heart Function Clinic.

You will lead care initiatives, engage in patient advocacy, staff development, quality improvement, and research to advance cardiovascular care within Covenant Health.

Qualifications

• Master of Nursing NP program completed; eligible for CRNA licensure.

Description:

Reporting to the Senior Director, Operations or Program Manager, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is employed in a variety of settings across the continuum of care including acute care and continuing care. The NP uses an evidence-informed holistic approach that emphasizes the nursing professions' values, expertise and education. The majority of time is spent in clinical practice where the NP role includes, but is not limited to, diagnosing and managing common and complex health conditions, promoting health and preventing illness/injury, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmaceuticals, medical devises and other therapies and performing procedures, interventions and/or treatments. The NP performs restricted activities within their scope of practice as defined by Schedule 24 of the Health Professions Act, the Registered Nurses Profession Regulations, and the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). In some clinical settings, the NP is considered the most responsible provider. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUNP Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program at a Master of Nursing level.Must possess relevant and recent clinical expertise within stream of practice.Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) as a Nurse Practitioner.Must be appropriately licensed with the clinical practice stream relevant to area of clinical employment.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent acute care experience and knowledge in Cardiology . Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable working directly with patients and their family members. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and to function independently. Excel at working in a dynamic fast paced environment. Work well under pressure and stressful situations. Application and knowledge of current research. Ongoing interest in research. Experience in a wide range of assessment, treatment and therapeutic interventions, health promotion, diagnostic procedures and interpretation, and follow-up care in the community is considered an asset. Must understand and practice within full scope of their knowledge in an interdisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

2 years of NP experience preferred. ACLS certification is an asset.
