Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 education or recognized equivalent.
• OSMT Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate.
• Data entry and order skills with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Collection of appropriate specimens including phlebotomy.
• Performs specific patient procedures e.g. ECG Holter Monitor.
• Maintains competence in the receiving handling processing identification recording labeling and dispatch of specimens for laboratory testing.
• Registering and accessioning using LIS.
• Operates and maintains laboratory equipment according to HRLMP procedures and reports failures.
• Actively participates in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement activities to meet HRLMP objectives.
• Recognizes unusual situations and reports immediately to a MLT.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information at all times.
