Job summary

Bissell Centre is seeking an Extreme Weather Response Coordinator to lead the nightly shuttle operations and supervise a team of six full-time staff plus casual relief, ensuring safe, trauma-informed service delivery for vulnerable community members.

The role requires a degree or diploma in a human services field with 2–3 years of frontline experience, First Aid/CPR, and strong crisis-management and teamwork abilities. You’ll join a dedicated team in Edmonton’s Extreme Weather Response program.

Qualifications

  • Minimum degree or diploma in a human services field with 2–3 years of direct experience with vulnerable population.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • Experience supervising diverse frontline teams, preferably in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong knowledge of homelessness systems, harm reduction, client-centered and trauma-informed care, and culturally safe practices.
  • Familiarity with financial empowerment, family support, FASD-informed practice and system navigation approaches an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage safety risks and respond effectively to crises.
  • Strong data literacy and comfort with case management systems (Starting Point, ORBIT, or equivalent).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Culturally safe and trauma-informed practice, including understanding of Indigenous historical and intergenerational trauma.

Responsibilities

  • Lead nightly operations of the Extreme Weather Response Shuttle, ensuring safe, timely, and trauma-informed service delivery.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Extreme Weather Response Shuttle, staff assignments, attendance, and role coverage each shift.
  • Liaise with bus operators, shelter staff, Transit Peace Officers, and Edmonton Police Service to coordinate service flow and respond to incidents.
  • Monitor staffing levels and coordinate last-minute scheduling adjustments or call-ins as needed. If coverage cannot be found, cover the shift to ensure continued operations.
  • Provide on-the-ground leadership and presence during shuttle operations to support staff and Community Members.
