The Healing Place - Mayne Island British Columbia, Canada

2 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants

The Healing Place is a new Community Contributions Company (C3) social enterprise located on Mayne Island, B.C. Its vision is to restore and rehabilitate the land through holistic practices that blend traditional Indigenous wisdom with modern innovation. We are situated on unceded territories and are taking strides in restoring ecosystems and building sustainable, resilient food systems.

We aim to operate with a multi-faceted approach encompassing growing, hunting, processing, education, food security, restorative agriculture, climate solutions, and healing. Our mission is to bridge traditional knowledge and contemporary practices to mend the environmental and social impacts caused by destructive colonial practices. Tsi Tesakotitsén:tha • The Place That Heals You — will serve as a hub for learning, regeneration, art and innovation, inspiring others across the region, province, and country to replicate these restorative practices.

Susheela Kundargi and David Fierro co-founded The Healing Place, which is grounded in respect for the land and community. We are committed to building a space where these values thrive.

What We’re Looking For:

We are currently seeking passionate Indigenous individuals to join our board of directors and help guide the work of this important initiative. These individuals will bring cultural insight, vision, and experience to The Healing Place's leadership.

What We’re Looking For:

We seek passionate and knowledgeable volunteers of any age (and encourage elders) to join our board to provide cultural insight, vision, and leadership to guide our work.

Available Positions:

  • Non-Shareholding Director (1 position):
  • This position is ideal for those interested and experienced in food security/sovereignty, land-based learning, or related fields. The director will help shape the strategic direction without holding shares in the company. (Preference is given to individuals from W̱SÁNEĆ or a nearby Coastal First Nation.)
  • Volunteer Board Member (2 positions to start): Help guide with insight in any of these areas: sustainable agriculture, permaculture, traditional knowledge, community engagement, environmental stewardship, technology, visual or language arts, hunting/fishing/survival skills, medicinal plants, or Indigenous economic development. Preference is given to Indigenous individuals from any First Nation within so-called Canada.

As we’re just starting up, but also as we grow, having input from the communities we aim to serve is crucial. Due date: May 29, 2025 - for a third Director to join David and Susheela. In the coming months, the other two board positions. In the future, we would welcome expanding the board.

Key Qualities/Experience We Seek:

  • A passion for food sovereignty, land-based learning, traditional knowledge, restorative agriculture, education, or related fields.
  • A strong interest in helping create meaningful, long-term impact for both people and the environment.
  • Experience or an eagerness to contribute to governance, strategy, and decision-making.

What’s Involved:

Directors will participate in monthly one-hour meetings to discuss the organization's progress, challenges, and goals.

  • As a C3, our board will focus on maintaining social, cultural, and environmental impact while building the business to support our mission.
  • A commitment to attending a 1-hour board meeting monthly online and possibly an additional 1-3 hours of work/month.
  • Directors will offer strategic guidance and help shape the future of The Healing Place so that it upholds its mission. See more here: http://www.landbasedhealing.com/corporate.html

How to Apply:

If you are passionate about food sovereignty, land-based healing, or community empowerment and have experience or an interest in contributing to the growth of a new social enterprise, we would love to hear from you. Please send an Expression of Interest (EOI) or your resume outlining your background and how you would contribute to our mission.

We seek a diverse, supportive board to help us build a sustainable, inclusive, and culturally rooted organization whose model can be replicated. Your involvement will be pivotal in guiding the work of The Healing Place as we continue to work toward a healed, regenerative future for the land and community.

To apply or ask questions, please get in touch with us at managementteam@landbasedhealing.com

We look forward to hearing from you and working together to create

a thriving, resilient, and sustainable community where people are deeply connected to the land,

their food systems and traditional Indigenous knowledge,

leading to a healthier, more just world for all generations” (our vision).
