Job summary

Irving Shipbuilding is seeking a Network Specialist to design, implement, and maintain the networking infrastructure supporting our enterprise systems. You will ensure secure and efficient network operations and play a key role in project delivery across the organization.

The role requires a university degree or college diploma and 3–8 years of networking experience, with certifications like CCNA/CCNP considered a bonus. CGP and ITAR-related clearances are required for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve complex networking issues across J.D. Irving Limited infrastructure.
  • Coordinate vendor and external resources for troubleshooting.
  • Provide networking SME support on internal and customer-facing projects.
  • Optimize systems for performance and capacity; identify improvements.
  • Research, implement and enforce security protocols.
  • Develop and maintain SOP documentation for networking solutions.
  • Lead day-to-day networking activities and participate in on-call rotation.

As a key member of the IT team, you will have a direct impact on the design and enhancements that ensure the digital experience exceeds the expectations of the enterprise. You will ensure that network operations are efficient and secure by supporting and maintaining the lifecycle on network services and solutions.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Responsibilities
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues related to the networking component of the J.D. Irving Limited infrastructure
  • Act as an escalation point to manage all required vendor and external technical resources to effectively troubleshoot issues
  • Provide subject matter expertise as the networking resource on a wide variety of internal and customer facing technology projects, supporting organizational standards
  • Optimize existing systems related to performance and capacity and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Research, understand and implement security protocols
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedure documentation for all networking solutions
  • Lead and oversee day-to-day networking activities and contribute to long term operational planning and activities
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for production support
  • Responsibilities include activities related to the following tools and technologies; Cisco Prime, Cisco Identity Services Engine, Cisco Catalyst Centre, Junos Space, OpManager, Zabbix, Cisco Wireless, Meraki, Check Point, A10 and Netscaler load balancing
Qualifications
  • Education Required: A university degree, college diploma or a related discipline
  • 3 - 8 years of experience in a networking technical position
  • Ability to pivot to changing priorities and make quick decisions with limited information
  • Work well in a team environment with a focus on knowledge sharing and collaboration
  • Effective customer service and communication skills
