The City of Swift Current’s Museum Attendant is a casual, part-time role within the Community Services Department, providing front-line visitor services and operational support at the Swift Current Museum.

Qualifications

  • Customer service, tourism, museum, recreation, retail or front-desk experience is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills for in-person, online, and phone service.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete routine administrative tasks with accuracy.
  • Experience with registration or point-of-sale systems is an asset.
  • Vulnerable sector check required upon hire.
  • Respect in Sport/Respect in the Workplace certification required.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence required.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and Saturday afternoons as scheduled.

  • Share accurate information about museum exhibits, programs, services, tourism resources, and community amenities.
  • Support front-desk operations, including visitor reception, telephone and online inquiries, program registrations, gift shop sales, and routine cash handling.
  • Collect and maintain visitor statistics, facility records, files, forms, and other routine administrative information.
  • Assist with Museum programs, special events, and facility operations as directed.
  • Conduct gallery patrols and help maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming environment.
  • Prepare routine correspondence, forms, and reports with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Use sound judgement to respond to routine questions, sensitive situations, and competing priorities in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Work independently while remaining responsive to team priorities, operational needs, and direction from the Museum Manager.
  • Learn and use Xplor Recreation and other applicable systems to support registrations, payments, records, and visitor service functions.

Job description

The City of Swift Current is inviting applications for a non-permanent, casual Museum Attendant within the Community Services Department. Reporting to the General Manager of Corporate Services, this position provides professional front-line visitor services and operational support at the Swift Current Museum. Responsibilities include welcoming visitors, providing tourism and exhibit information, assisting with gift shop sales and program registrations, collecting visitor statistics, supporting events, conducting gallery patrols, and completing routine administrative duties. The successful candidate will be dependable, service-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working with the public in a dynamic community facility. Scheduled hours are primarily evenings and weekends, including Saturday afternoons as required.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

This role is well suited to an energetic and organized individual who enjoys public-facing work and takes pride in creating a positive visitor experience. The Museum Attendant helps ensure the facility is welcoming, safe, and well supported while providing courteous, accurate, and timely service to residents, visitors, volunteers, and community partners.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience in customer service, tourism, museums, recreation, retail, hospitality, or front-desk operations is considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and professional service in person, online, and by telephone.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow oral and written instructions, and complete routine administrative tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Comfort using computers, standard office equipment, and Windows-based applications; experience with registration or point-of-sale systems is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining professionalism, tact, and confidentiality.
  • A satisfactory vulnerable sector check is required upon hire.
  • Respect in Sport or Respect in the Workplace certification is required.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s licence is required.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and Saturday afternoons as scheduled is required.
HOURS OF WORK
  • This is a casual, part-time position with no guarantee of hours.
  • Shifts are scheduled according to operational needs and may include daytime, evening, weekend, and Saturday afternoon hours.
  • Flexibility to support programs, events, and visitor service coverage is required.
