About the Opportunity

Health Care Social Workers provide a diverse range of interventions to clients and their families, enabling them to achieve their optimal level of functioning and health. These interventions include: psychosocial assessments, adjustment therapy, supportive therapy, crisis counselling, resource counselling, and discharge planning and case management.

Health Care Social Workers are actively involved in advocacy, education, program planning, consultation and collaboration on behalf of individuals/groups within the institution and community. The role is multifaceted and dynamic, requiring each Social Worker to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams.

The Health Care Social Worker is a licensed professional who practices in accordance with a set of National/Provincial Standards and Code of Ethics and Department Procedures, Policies and Standards. The Health Care Social Worker is responsible for supervising undergraduate and graduate students in work placements.

Please note this is a Multi-Unit/Multi-Site position in which the Strait Richmond Hospital has been designated as the home unit. The successful candidate(s) will be regularly assigned to shifts at the Strait Richmond Hospital and Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Master of Social Work degree from an accredited university required
  • Certificate of Registration and Membership in the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers and Canadian Association of Social Workers required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required
  • Travel required - access to a reliable form of transportation required
  • Strong counselling and communication skills
  • Capacity to achieve a high degree of autonomous practice
  • Knowledge of issues related to family violence, sexual abuse, addictions, grief and long, end of life, disability, and crisis intervention
  • Able to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Achieve and maintain a working knowledge of community resources and medical terminology
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Permanent, part-time position, 37.5 hrs bi-weekly
Compensation and Benefits

$40.18 - $54.14 Hourly
