Job summary

The Berkeley is seeking a reliable Maintenance Technician / Handyman to support day-to-day upkeep across four retirement communities in HRM. This hands-on role involves general repairs, routine and preventative maintenance, and ensuring residents live in a safe, comfortable environment.

Ideal candidates enjoy problem-solving, hands-on work, and maintaining high-quality living spaces while traveling between sites and occasionally on-call for after-hours emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Experience in general maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs independently.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Comfortable working in residents' homes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and minor, non-certified repairs (including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting).
  • Respond to maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
  • Repair doors, locks, fixtures, lighting, flooring, and appliances.
  • Assist with HVAC maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain common areas, hallways, and outdoor spaces.
  • Travel between four retirement community locations within HRM.
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedule.
  • Provide shuttle driving for residents between locations.
  • Report larger issues to management.
  • Assist with furniture moves and waste removal.
