Job summary

The Berkeley in Halifax is seeking a reliable Maintenance Technician/Handyman to support day-to-day upkeep of our retirement communities. This hands-on role covers general repairs, routine and preventative maintenance, and ensuring residents live in a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in general maintenance or handyman work.
• Basic plumbing, electrical, and building repairs.
• Ability to troubleshoot and complete minor repairs independently.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs; refer to licensed pros when needed.
• Respond to maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
• Repair doors, locks, fixtures, lighting, flooring, and appliances.
• Complete drywall repairs, painting, and touch-ups.
• Assist with basic HVAC maintenance.
• Support suite turnover including repairs and painting.
• Conduct basic property inspections and report larger issues to management.
• Maintain safe, clean common areas, halls, and outdoor spaces.
• Seasonal duties such as snow removal and light groundskeeping.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
• Assist with furniture moves, waste removal, and general operational support.
• Provide staff education to avoid repeated and/or similar issues.
