Job description

Located in the absolute centre of downtown in the vibrant Halifax Waterfront, in the heart of the new Queen’s Marque district, Muir offers elevated hospitality inspired by the spirit, culture and natural beauty of Nova Scotia. In each of our departments, our team shares a common goal – providing an exceptional customer experience in a clean, comfortable environment.

At Muir, every detail tells a story. From the harbour outside our windows to the craftsmanship woven into every space, Muir is deeply rooted in Nova Scotia's character. We believe hospitality should feel personal, thoughtful, and quietly extraordinary. In-Room Dining is often where that story becomes most intimate.

We are seeking an Assistant In-Room Dining Manager who understands that our service extends beyond the plate to delivering trust, impeccable timing, and genuine care in every guest interaction.

As Assistant In-Room Dining Manager, you will help shape the moments that unfold behind the guestroom door. You will lead alongside the In-Room Dining Manager to ensure every table, tray, interaction, and detail reflects the precision and warmth that defines us.

This Role is for a Leader Who:
  • Observes the subtle details that make a guest experience exceptional.
  • Maintains composure and precision, even during the busiest service periods.
  • Provides guidance and coaching with clarity, empathy, and encouragement.
  • Views accountability as a tool for growth and empowerment, not criticism.
  • Recognizes that true luxury is experienced through thoughtful actions, not words.
What you will be doing:
  • Guest Service Excellence - Ensure all in-room dining orders are prepared, delivered, and presented to the highest standards, exceeding guest expectations. Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests and feedback.
  • Operational Leadership - Assist in managing daily operations, including scheduling, inventory management, and workflow coordination to ensure smooth service.
  • Team Management & Training - Supervise, mentor, and train in-room dining staff, fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performance team culture. Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching to improve service standards.
  • Quality & Standards Control - Maintain adherence to food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards. Monitor portion control, presentation, and consistency of all in-room dining offerings.
  • Financial Oversight - Assist with budget management, cost control, and inventory monitoring, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to departmental financial targets.
  • Collaboration - Work closely with kitchen, housekeeping, and front office teams to ensure seamless service coordination and delivery. Communicate effectively with other departments to resolve operational issues.
  • Reporting & Administration - Support reporting requirements, including daily operational reports, guest feedback analysis, and staff performance tracking.
Your experience and skills include:
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role within in-room dining, room service, or high-end food & beverage operations.
  • Experience in a luxury or upscale hotel environment an asset
  • Formal education or certification in hospitality, food & beverage, or hotel management an asset.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency in point-of-sale systems, scheduling software, and basic financial reporting.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
Your team and working environment:
  • Fast-paced luxury hotel
  • Located in the heart of the vibrant Halifax waterfront, minutes away from the Dartmouth ferry terminal
  • A team of like-minded hospitality professionals that share a passion for service
  • Back of house experience that puts employees first
