Job summary

Metrolinx is seeking a Millwright for the Whitby Rail Maintenance Facility to ensure GO Transit facilities, plant equipment and systems are operated and maintained safely and efficiently.

Starting pay rate is non-negotiable: $43.43 per hour. The role requires an Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certification and at least two years’ experience maintaining large rail facilities and equipment. Day shift, Monday–Friday, on-site location in Whitby.

Qualifications

• Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certification is required.
• ≥2 years of experience operating and maintaining large facilities and rail equipment.
• Experience with gas cutting, soldering, brazing, gas and arc welding, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Valid Ontario G driver's license with clean driving record.
• Ability to obtain GO Transit Equipment Operator's Permit.
• Knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations and training requirements.
• First Aid Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates repairs and maintains equipment, systems, and structures.
• Troubleshoots minor electrical issues.
• Prepares records for inspections and work accomplished.
• Operates and maintains assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools safely.
• Monitors the operation of on-site contractors.
• Identifies parts, components and materials needed for repairs.
• Provides guidance to Plant Mechanics and Plant Serviceperson.
• Carries out emergency measures.
• Purchases parts and materials related to facility requirements.

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. Our Rail Facility Assets Office is seeking a Millwright to ensure GO Transit facilities, plant equipment and systems are operated and maintained in a safe and effective manner.

What will I be doing?

• Operates repairs and maintains equipment, systems, and structures.
• Troubleshoots minor electrical issues.
• Prepares records for the Supervisor relative inspections, work accomplished, etc.
• Operates and maintains assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools safely.
• Monitors the operation of on-site contractors.
• Identifies parts, components and materials required for repairs.
• Provides guidance to Plant Mechanics and Plant Serviceperson.
• Carries out emergency measures.
• Purchases parts, components, and materials relative to facility requirements.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

• Must have an Industrial Mechanic Millwright Certification.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience involving the operation and specialized maintenance of large facilities and of the associated equipment supporting Rail repair.
• Experience in gas cutting, soldering, brazing, gas and arc welding, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to operate forklift, personnel lifts (scissor or telescopic), and/or other similar equipment.
• Have a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver’s licence and must meet corporate standard for a good driving record.
• Ability to obtain GO Transit Equipment Operator’s Permit.
• Have a working knowledge of pertinent environmental regulations, codes and health and safety regulations.
• Successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy.
• Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid Certification.
