Job summary

Metrolinx is seeking a Plant Serviceperson I on a contract basis to provide basic and specialized janitorial services, maintenance and minor repairs for Metrolinx buildings, grounds, and facilities. The role is based at Willowbrook in Etobicoke, Ontario, with a Sunday-Thursday shift from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Responsibilities include cleaning, replenishing supplies, operating equipment like driveable scrubbers and forklifts, and performing light maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 9 months in building/janitorial services with cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Valid Ontario G license with clean driving record; GO Transit Equipment Operator permit; First Aid Certification.
• Forklift and propane training; environmental and safety training as required by policy.
• Ability to interact with the public in a courteous manner.

Responsibilities

• Inspect facilities for cleanliness and record deficiencies; prepare records for Supervisor.
• Perform general janitorial tasks: supplies replenishment, waste removal, surface cleaning, polishing, waxing, vacuuming, disinfecting.
• Operate and maintain equipment such as forklift, overhead cranes, drop tables and hoists; clean areas where they stood.
• Carry out general maintenance to enhance the facility.
• Monitor on-site facility and equipment; report issues and take corrective action as directed.

Our Rail Facility Assets Office is seeking a Plant Serviceperson I on a contract basis, to provide basic and specialized janitorial services, maintenance and minor repairs for Metrolinx buildings, grounds, and facilities.

Shift Details :

• Shift Days: Sunday to Thursday
• Shift Hours : 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
• Location : Willowbrook (125 Judson St | Etobicoke | Ontario | M8Z 1A4)
• Off Days : Friday, Saturday
• Length of contract : upto 9 months

What will I be doing?

• Inspects facilities for cleanliness and records deficiencies. Prepares records for the Supervisor relative to work accomplished, deficiencies noted and vehicle, equipment and material usage.
• Carries out general janitorial services including replenishment of supplies; garbage and waste removal or separation; surface cleaning; polishing; waxing; vacuuming; dusting; disinfecting and washing and pit degreasing using basic and specialized materials, tools and specialized equipment such as driveable scrubbers/sweepers, tractors, man-lifts and fork-lifts.
• Operates and maintains various equipment such as: forklift, overhead cranes, drop tables and hoists and cleans areas where they have been standing.
• Carries out general maintenance required to maintain or enhance the facility.
• Monitors on-site the facility and equipment and reports any unusual items to the supervisor and takes corrective action as appropriately directed.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

• Level of reading, writing, and learning skills normally attained through completion of high school or equivalent.
• Minimum of nine (9) months’ experience in building and janitorial servicing involving the safe handling of cleaning chemicals, tools and equipment including floor polishers, driveable scrubbers and high-pressure washers.
• Minimum one year of driving experience with a class “G” driver’s licence. Must have a valid Ontario class “G” licence and must meet corporate standard for a good driving record. Must be able to obtain a GO Transit Equipment Operator's permit. Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid Certification.
• Must successfully complete Forklift and Propane Training, as well as environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy.
• Must have the ability to deal with the public in a courteous manner.
