Job summary

Olymel in Red Deer is seeking a dedicated Millwright for our permanent, year-round maintenance team. You will troubleshoot and maintain conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment in a large production facility.

The role requires Alberta Journeyman or Red Seal certification, 2+ years’ experience in maintenance or the food industry, and the ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Evening shift 14:00–23:30; benefits and pension are provided.

Qualifications

• Alberta Journeyman or Red Seal certification required.
• 2+ years of maintenance experience in food production.
• Must be physically capable of performing the tasks.
• Excellent reading and writing in English.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints and diagrams to determine procedures.
• Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Repair or replace defective parts to meet production and safety standards.
• Operate machine tools to fabricate replacement parts during maintenance.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on meat-processing equipment.
• Follow lockout/tagout procedures and food-safety protocols.
• Coordinate with production and sanitation teams to resume operations after maintenance.
• Test and calibrate equipment after servicing to verify performance.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Contribute to continuous improvement to reduce maintenance costs.

Join our permanent Red Deer maintenance team at $48.77 per hour, plus shift premium, benefits and pension.

This is a stable, year-round plant position with no camp rotation or out-of-town travel.

You will troubleshoot and maintain conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment in a large production facility.

REQUIREMENTS

• Physically capable of performing the tasks attached to your job duties.


• Available to work evening shift 14:00-23:30


• Ability to read, write and communicate in English while following written and verbal instructions.

JOB DUTIES AND TASKS

• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.


• Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to identify malfunctions or irregularities.


• Adjust, repair, or replace defective parts and components, such as bearings, shafts, seals, and valves, ensuring compliance with production and safety standards.


• Operate machine tools to fabricate replacement parts needed during maintenance, overhaul, or setup of equipment.


• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on machinery used in meat processing, including slicers, grinders, mixers, conveyors, and vacuum packaging systems.


• Use lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and adhere to all company safety policies and food safety protocols during maintenance and repair activities.


• Collaborate with production and sanitation teams to coordinate equipment repairs and ensure timely start-up of operations after maintenance.


• Test and calibrate equipment after installation or servicing to verify operational efficiency and safety performance.


• Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform corrective actions to reduce production interruptions.


• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize equipment performance and reduce maintenance costs.
