Job summary

W3Global in Edmonton seeks a Metallurgical Engineer / Technical Services & Lab Lead to support heat-treat operations through metallurgical testing, lab oversight, troubleshooting, process verification, and equipment recommendations. This role is hands-on and shop-floor connected, with mentoring responsibilities for QC staff in lab tasks.

You will apply metallography, case depth and hardness testing, and interpret results against specs, while contributing to ISO 9001 quality management

Qualifications

• B.Sc. or graduate degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on heat-treating experience including furnace operation, hardness/case depth testing.
• Strong ability to interpret customer specifications and test results, and produce technical reports.
• Willingness to mentor staff and teach practical metallurgy to others.
• Familiarity with QA systems, calibration, furnace compliance and audit support.
• Willingness to fill lab technician, metallographer and engineering functions as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform metallurgical laboratory work and technical reporting.
• Prepare, section, mount, polish, etch and evaluate microstructures; case depth and hardness testing.
• Interpret customer-driven results and generate concise reports.
• Maintain lab practices, records, and safe operation of equipment.
• Train and develop QC Assistant / Lab Technician Trainee.
• Mentor staff to ensure cross-functional capability across lab tasks.
• Support furnace compliance and QA activities; maintain process verification programs.
• Assist in customer support, testing, and documentation for orders.
