Job description

The Family Centre is looking for a Mental Health Therapist skilled in developing collaborative relationships and partnerships with families and other parties. We are focused on Trauma-Informed Care for both our communities and staff teams, and provide services based on research and evidence-based practices. What you will be doing :

As a Mental Health Therapist, you will provide counselling to vulnerable children, adults, and families through collaborative partnerships. This position requires a 60% allocation to direct client care and 40% to community-based clinical coordination and case management activities. You will work collaboratively with other service providers in a “Circle of Support” care model for children and their families.

  • Deliver trauma-informed counselling to children and caregivers to heal from the effects of toxic stress and complex trauma
  • Establish relationships of trust with clients and other professionals
  • Implement evidence-based clinical interventions, with emphasis on short-term therapy techniques to provide service to clients for a wide range of issues
  • Promote awareness of healthy brain development and effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE)
  • Assist the client in connecting with community resources (assessment and referral)
  • When the client is unable, advocate on behalf of the client and teach the client how to advocate on their own behalf

What you will bring to the role :

  • Hold a Master's Degree or PhD in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a closely related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of professional counselling experience with demonstrated success in family centered interventions and trauma-informed care
  • Demonstrated experience addressing complex family dynamics through individual, couples, and group therapy modalities
  • Track record of thriving in multidisciplinary teams with flexibility to expand your role in response to program needs
  • Exceptional verbal / written communication skills (in English) with the ability to maintain precise clinical documentation and present case insights effectively
  • Comfortable using platforms, and standard office software, with adaptability to learn new digital tools

Background Check Process & Requirements :

As a part of the selection process, The Family Centre will conduct reference checks with your most recent employers.

  • Police Information Check – Vulnerable Sector and Intervention Record Check (completed within the last 6 months)
  • Child Intervention Record Check (completed within the last 6 months)
  • Certification and registration in good standing with applicable professional association(s)
  • Our Children Are Sacred Youth Suicide Prevention Training or ASIST Suicide Intervention Training, required within 3 months of start date
