Job summary

LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services in Burnaby, BC, seeks a detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform clinical testing, quality control, and analyzer maintenance, ensuring timely patient results across disciplines.

The position is temporary, full-time (greater than 12 months) with flexible shifts morning, afternoon, and overnight. Start date ASAP; 1 position available under the BCGEU collective agreement.

Qualifications

• Registration through CAMLPR pathways or CSMLS certification.
• Recent experience in the relevant laboratory discipline is preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in MS Windows-based systems and laboratory software.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical testing and release accurate patient results in accordance with established protocols.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment.
• Conduct and monitor quality control procedures; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Validate new reagent lots and support implementation of new methods and instrumentation.
• Utilize laboratory information systems for specimen processing, test management, and result reporting.
• Participate in external proficiency testing and post-software upgrade validations.
• Maintain expertise in specimen handling, critical values, rejection criteria, storage requirements, and test-specific protocols.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards, safety policies, WHMIS, and chemical hygiene regulations.
• Support team effectiveness through training, documentation updates, and process improvement initiatives.Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and organizational information.
