Job summary

LifeLabs LP in Surrey, BC is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform clinical testing, quality control, and analyzer maintenance across laboratory disciplines. The role requires adherence to safety, regulatory standards, and ongoing process improvements.

The position is permanent and casual with variable hours between 0 and 37.5 per week; experience in Microbiology within the last 5 years is preferred. Start date ASAP under BCGEU collective agreement.

Qualifications

• Registration through CAMLPR pathways or CSMLS certification.
• Recent experience in the relevant laboratory discipline is preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in MS Windows-based systems and laboratory software.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical testing and release accurate patient results in accordance with established protocols.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment.
• Conduct and monitor quality control procedures; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Validate new reagent lots and support implementation of new methods and instrumentation.
• Utilize laboratory information systems for specimen processing, test management, and result reporting.
• Participate in external proficiency testing and post-software upgrade validations.
• Maintain expertise in specimen handling, critical values, rejection criteria, storage requirements, and test-specific protocols.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards, safety policies, WHMIS, and chemical hygiene regulations.
• Support team effectiveness through training, documentation updates, and process improvement initiatives.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and organizational information.

The successful candidate will uphold laboratory quality, safety, and regulatory standards while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

• Status: Permanent, Casual (between 0 and 37.5 hours per week)
• Discipline: Core Microbiology
• Shift: Variable hours between 0500-0030
• Days: Variable Sunday through Saturday - may change with operational needs.
• Additional Information: Experience within the last 5 years in Microbiology preferred.
• Number of positions: 1
• Start Date: ASAP
• Union: This is part of the BCGEU collective agreement.
