Job description

On-call Medical Assistant position available for our East Vancouver Medical Clinic. Ideal candidates will have proven excellent customer service skills, demonstrate an enthusiastic & professional demeanor, and excel at multi-tasking. Medical Assistants are an integral part of the care team; ensuring patient flow and providing quality patient care in a safe and timely manner.

Essential duties and responsibilities :

  1. The MA is responsible for ensuring all patient clinical measures are addressed by doing thorough EHR reviews, tracking, and documenting all clinical measures/outcomes for patients in EHR. This includes seeing 18/21 patients per day with an assigned provider and reaching out to patients with care gaps.
  2. Coordinate and process all patient referrals, working closely with Referral Coordinators as per established protocols.
  3. Work collaboratively with all care team members to provide the best outcomes based on the Patient-Centered Medical Home model of care.
  4. Provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles.
  5. Assist providers in serving an average of 18/21 patients per day, identifying and categorizing patient needs based on age groups.
  6. Prepare for patient visits by collecting subjective information, vital signs, and relevant documentation, including lab and x-ray reports.
  7. Prepare exam and procedure rooms with supplies, disinfect, and maintain cleanliness per protocol.
  8. Administer IM, SubQ, and intradermal injections, as well as oral, rectal, and inhaled medications, documenting all procedures properly.
  9. Maintain medication and immunization data, ensuring proper storage, maintenance, and disposal.
  10. Respect cultural diversity and adhere to professional standards and organizational policies.
  11. Attend staff meetings and training, assist with minor procedures, and support department efficiency improvements.
  12. Complete referrals, assist with obtaining lab results and patient records, and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and community partners.
  13. Utilize AIDET for excellent customer service, manage incoming calls professionally, and communicate delays effectively.
  14. Follow infection control policies, manage bio-hazardous waste, and ensure HIPAA compliance.
  15. Demonstrate proficiency with electronic health records and regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission standards and clinical quality measures.
  16. If acting as a Scribe, demonstrate proficiency accordingly.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Personnel and Performance Metrics :

  • Adhere to schedule and be ready by 8 am daily.
  • Use AIDET skills consistently.
  • Complete all quality care gaps for 100% of patients.
  • Provide services to at least ten patients daily.
  • Support enrollment in Follow My Health.
  • Close chart notes within 24 hours.
  • Support an average of 21 patient visits per day per provider (MD) and 18 for ARNP/PA.

Education and / or Requirements :

  • Must have Washington State Medical Assistant Certificate.
  • At least one year of experience preferred, especially in Family Medicine.
  • Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred but not required.
