Job description

Join to apply for the Media Buyer role at Wavemaker.

The Media Buyer provides counsel to Media Planners and client teams regarding marketplace rates and conditions, drives the buying and negotiating process for assigned clients, and ensures high-quality execution. This is a 360 media investment role, involving developing, executing, and reconciling both digital and broadcast go-to-market strategies.

This role within the Trading Team works closely with media vendors to implement media plans. In conjunction with Media Planners, this function is responsible for negotiating and purchasing media real estate to reach the targeted audience and deliver optimal outcomes for the company and clients.

Key Accountabilities
Client and Internal Partnership
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients, lead client status calls, and present insights, post-campaign wraps, optimizations, and findings.
  • Liaise with the planning team to deliver digital strategy, provide market research/insights, and develop POVs.
Delivering Management
  • Provide insights on go-to-market strategies, select vendors/sites, and justify these choices, acting as a liaison with vendors/partners.
  • Assist the Manager in communications with the planning team, including buy authorizations, tracking reports, buy changes, and creative specifications.
  • Coordinate reporting with planning and analytics teams.
  • Gather and present information from Mindshare and GroupM Trading leadership to planning teams and clients as needed.
  • Approve vendor invoices accurately and reconcile budgets promptly.
Job Requirements
  • College diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in advertising, marketing, business administration, communications, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with media tools (e.g., Prisma, Mediaocean) and syndicated research resources (e.g., ComScore, Numeris).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong presentation abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships across teams.
  • Leadership, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, adaptable, and eager to learn.
  • 1-2 years of relevant media experience, with digital strategy/buying or planning preferred.
