Job Title : Mechanical Technologist (Internal Title : CAD II)
Reporting to the Assistant Manager and Senior Engineer - Mechanical, the Mechanical Technologist provides technical support and design expertise related to mechanical engineering designs for client buildings, maintenance facilities, and transit facilities.
- The Mechanical Technologist will retrieve as-built drawings, conduct site surveys, define design scopes, complete designs, prepare conceptual and final drawings, and contribute to tendering and construction documents.
- Provide technical assistance to the client Plant Maintenance project management team and trades personnel as required.
- Under direction from the Senior Engineer - Mechanical, provide technical support and design expertise related to HVAC, plumbing and drainage, fire protection, specialty liquid systems, and other mechanical systems.
- Prepare Design Scope Clarifications and Design Scope Clarification Reports by communicating with work order originators and stakeholders.
- Extract existing drawings and conduct site surveys to determine existing conditions.
- Prepare mechanical designs, specifications, and CADD drawings using Microsoft Office, Bentley ProjectWise, and MicroStation systems.
- Prepare documents and drawings in other formats, such as PDF, as required.
- Perform duties as specified in Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Work Instructions to facilitate design delivery.
- Coordinate design with other design disciplines and trades as required.
- Assist the team in determining the requirements of Designated Substance Survey and Locate Reference drawings.
- Carry out assigned field reviews to ensure that construction complies with Issued for Construction documents, Ontario Building Code, TSSA regulations, Ontario Fire Code, etc., and meets client requirements.
- Review shop drawings and materials submissions.
- Conduct independent studies and analysis of products, equipment, systems, and resolve design problems and construction issues by applying relevant engineering principles and standard practices.
- Provide construction support and prepare Site Instructions.
- Review as-built markups provided by trades, confirm installations, and prepare as-built drawings.
- Responsible for treating passengers and / or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code.
